I'm wondering how the thumbnails are generated for Theater View. I have one computer set up as a Library Server and the other as a remote client. On the server if I use Theater View and look under artist/album the thumbnails show the first four albums. On the client it most often shows four of the same images.
Also, am I the only one who's Theater View locks up on them? I've had this problem for several months on my remote client. I've since completely wiped the comptuer out and re-installed everything from scratch. Still no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could you copy your system info from MC Help and paste it here?
Are you using any other software with MC?

Here is the info from the client:

The setups are good. When you say "lockup", what are doing at the time? What happens if you wait?
Is there just audio in the library?
Are you saying that if you run MC on the server, only some of the thumbnails show up? If so, try the option for view, erase thumbnails and rebuild them all.
-
If I try to page down etc the screen will stop responding. Sometimes if I wait additional thumbnails may show up, BUT the control never seems to return.
Yes I'm only talking about the audio portion of library.
As for the thumbnails, on the server all looks normal with 4 album covers per thumb. On the client most thumbnails are 4 of the same album covers for the same album/artist.
I should also mention that images are stored in the tags, and ALL tracks have album images.
One question, what "algorithm" does the theater view uses to find "four album covers". Its really strange that it appears to be different on the client.
As for the last question. I just tired erasing all thumbnails and we're definantly on to something. Instant "lockup" when I clicked on artist/ablum. I looked on the server and the library server shows only 1 or 2 requests per minute for album art. It isn't actually locked up, just REALLY slowly getting the album art.
-
Also want to add that I just tired to "build missing thumbnails". SLOOOWWW. Yikes. One or two a minute. Any ideas?
-
I'm guessing you're trying to build them across the network. Erase and re-build them on the server.
If that isn't it, there may be a network problem.
-
I rebuilt the server. Still the same slow performance on the client.
I don't konw what kind of network problem it might be as I've actually pulled 100GB of data off it to the server before I wiped the OS.
Any ideas?

Mystery Solved. I just disabled McAfee firewall and it works fine then. Strange because I allowed MC etc. Even stranger is that it "partially" worked. At any rate McAfee Firewall = bad for MC Client access. :)
I'm rebuilding the images on the client and I'll let you know if the thumbnails look correct then...
Oh, and two slaps in the head for me for trying the obvious first. :)
I should mention that this might be related to a problem I had with our network at work. VirusScan Enterprise would DRASTICALLY slow down network connetions that locked part of a file. SourceSafe and a propriatary accounting system were affected.
It is a fully patched version of McAfee Personal Firewall on my home computer, but due to sharing some common code with virus scan... I could do some captures with Ethereal if you'd like, but it will have to wait till I'm home from holidays. I'll be gone 10 days...
Thanks Again

OK the "lockups are solved" but the thumbnails still show 4 of the same album, but the server shows 4 different ones.
Any idea what is going on?

Try looking at the tag information in the action window for images and see where they are located. That might give you some clue as to where the different images are stored. Something similar happened to me and I discovered the different images being displayed were stored in a different folder. Even though they were stored in the file, MC was reading them from a different location. Just a thought. May be way off base.

ALL 10,000 images are stored in the tags on the server. I run a tight ship around these parts.... :)
