Back from a long trip this afternoon. I started up MC, of course, and by chance, played a podcast from a feed on our page here:
http://www.perbcast.com/
The feed is this one:
Piano Jazz Shorts
The Best of Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz from Carolina's ETV Radio
On March 7 of this year, she did a program on her ex-husband, Jimmy McPartland. It is really something to hear. A great clip of jazz history. Bix Beiderbecke, Wolverines, Louis Armstrong, and more.

Jim - I dont want to hijack your post, and Im not much of a jazz fan, but I have to ask in this thread about the obituary (http://www.guardian.co.uk/obituaries/story/0,,1854577,00.html) I read in my newspaper the other day - Rufus Harley: jazz bagpiper. As someone who tends to want to cut my own ears off when I hear traditional bagpipe music, I was intrigued to the point of disbelief. I would probably give anything to listen to the bagpipe-funk albums they refer to.
If I'd read this on April 1, I would have thought this an obvious joke. I'd love to know the thoughts of anyone who has heard of, or heard the music of, this jazz pioneer.

Rufus Harley: jazz bagpiper.
This alone ("jazz bagpiper") made me go buy his album on Amazon.
-
My God - why did I just assume his records will be long deleted and unavailable? (OK you know why - my prejudice against bagpipe music) Sure enough on Amazon UK a 'greatest hits' and the apparently bagpipe funk classic 'Re-creation of the Gods'. But no reviews. I know I said Id give anything, but it seems that £7.99 may be too much.
RobOK - you have the courage of your convictions that I obviously lack. Promise you'll put up a review/recommendation here once you get it.

I would chalk it up more to "impulse buy"!
Plus my wife loves the bagpipes.
