I have been told that I need an mpc cord from my exterior cd drive to my sound card in order to play or rip cd's. My interior drive (that doesn't work) has a cord that goes from the drive to the sound card. However, my exterior drive only has what looks like speaker jacks in the front and the back of the drive. When I went to buy such a cord at radio shack they said that they didn't have one and I would probably have to go to a computer shop that builds computers to find one. Would an ordinary speaker wire from my exterior drive to the speaker input on the sound card work?

Doubt speaker wire will work... but you may not need to bother. AFAIK, it only serves for the CD to play music *without computer/software involvement*
So, if you want to operate Play/Next Track/Volume just using the controls on the front of the CD - then you need one.
If you use software for playing music, the cable is not needed.

Well my mj8 version 365 software is still not working as I still cannot play cda cd's in either digital or analog format nor can I rip them.
