Title: OT: Internet in Montana
Post by: John Gateley on September 05, 2006, 03:36:19 pm
Y'all would not believe how hard it is to find an Internet connection in northwestern Montana...

Some places have a couple of computers you can use, but no wireless. Other places have wireless, but "it's not working now", or require you to use a dongle to install their driver.

My cell phone internet connection just laughs at me (when I do get service, which is rare, it's roaming).

I'm in a nice little coffee shop/deli in Kalispell with a nice wireless connection (no dongle) now, but that's
probably going to be the last time until this weekend :(

p.s. the lack of Internet is more than made up by the awesome scenery: 17 mile hike yesterday, and I swear 16 of the 17 were straight up...

Didn't you go to Antarctica a few years ago?

Just a guess but it was cold, and no Internet, no coffee shop, just frozen penguin juice.

I plan on maybe retiring to Montana in about 10 years.  My parents live in Bozeman now and have DSL from Qwest (else how could I visit?).

My requirements are 100++ acres, high-speed internet and UPS/FedEx delivery.

Have fun, I've hiked in NW Montana as a child and am looking forward to doing it again soon.

I'm back now, Montana and Alberta were wonderful, even without the Internet (or maybe better without the Internet).

I found out I'm too Internet dependent: We spent the last two days there frantically trying to find an Internet hookup so we could find the train schedule (arrival time wasn't printed on the ticket). Finally, my wife said "hey, just call the phone number printed on the ticket..."
