When renaming files from properties, MC used to ask me whether I wanted to delete empty left-over folders. Now it doesn't ask me anymore and doesn't delete the folder. I guess this is controlled by an option somewhere? Where do I find that option?
-
I think it is this registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 11\Properties\Confirm\Remove Empty Folders
-
Found it. The entry currently has the value 1. What value should it have?
Then there's an entry named "Confirm - Remove Empty Folders (Last Value)" with a value of 6. Does that mean anything?
-
Does that mean anything?
im sure it does
I don't think they have this in settings, they should have.
change:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 11\Properties\Confirm\Remove Empty Folders
to 0 or 1 and see what happens
i think it should be "0" to turn on the prompt again
-
Just for confirmation - it's '0' on my pc and I get the option to remove the folder on my pc
But the key is
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 11\Properties\Confirm - Remove Empty Folders
-
Well I was not sure, I am not on the same version as you.
That should be it
-
Yeah, changing the value to 0 did the trick. Thanks for your help!

Update: I think I have found out what caused the problem in the first place:
It looks like when MC asks you whether you want to delete an empty folder, you can activate the option "don't show message again". I activated this option and answered the dialog with "Yes" (i.e. remove).
I expected that MC would from now on always delete empty folders, as I had stated my preference. In fact, it doesn't. It doesn't show the dialog again and silently sets this setting to "never delete". You can only undo this via the registry.
I'd say this behaviour is highly unituitive and should be changed. Either remember the user's preference and/or make this available as an option somewhere.

For what it's worth, this is the behavior I would have expected. Even though you said yes to delete, you also said don't show this again. These are really 2 different things.

strange.
I would expect MC to silently remove empty folders from that point onwards, and indeed, it's certainly what happens here...
do you have 'show hidden files' enabled in explorer?
-
OK, checked carefully again today, and it looks like MC *does* silently delete empty folders from that point onwards, on my machine too. :) But still good to know that registry setting, just in case.
