Title: OT - My Desk
Post by: glynor on September 06, 2006, 12:41:14 pm
Yesterday and today I've spent the majority of my time at work moving.  It wasn't a huge move, just across the room really, but due to all of the equipment I have it took (and is taking) a very long time to get set back up again.  I'm almost there (my audio equipment still isn't hooked up and my shelves aren't even a tiny bit organized), but since my desk was probably the cleanest it had been in about 3 years I decided to take a picture....

(If you're really nosy about what stuff I have there, clicking on the image above will take you to the Flickr page for that photo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/edandjenn/236099418/) where you can view the full version in all it's 12.8MP glory.)

This is sort of a "best case scenario" shot if you will.  Anyhow, I thought it might be interesting to share and see other people's work/play-stations.  This is my "office" workstation of course, not my home, but it's still fun.  Anyone else want to share?

A clean desk is the sign of a dirty mind.

Believe it Or Not I Am A Introvert

I don't like going out, or talk on the phone.

I am thinking about starting up a band, first album out the end of the month, and We will go on tour next month.

I will plan it out next week after a cup of coffee, and after I clutter up my desk.

what i did at work on sat:

I got some storage boxes from Office Depot, and i took everything on my desk and put it in a box. then i put it in the corner with a cover (there are two boxes there now).

I figure if i need it in the next year it will be in that box, after a year if i did not take it out of the box then i really did not need it. There is many items in the box, tools, important memos from my boss and the corp headquarters etc...

just this morning one of my techs needed a chisel, i told him to open the box and take one. it was setting on my desk for 6 months, why i have no idea.

The second box is 6 months old, and the one before that i put in the trash last sat and that was a year old.

But I have a clean desk, and the system has worked for me for the past 30+ years

About 20 years ago, I patented the rolling desk top.  It moves at a desktop length each month.  A 60 inch desk moves 2 inches each day.  My invention had a wastebasket at the receiving end.  I can see that your boxes are an obvious improvement.  What do you want for the idea?

not bad

I take it you had to plug the desk in

Since it will take at least ten years to build a nuclear power plant, selling them on the mass market would overload the nations power network causing blackouts and brown outs.

My idea will help since all you need to do it pick the box up and shove it into the boiler, thus creating steam to power the generator.

Since i called my mom yesterday (she is 75 now, as of Aug 31) she said the Atlantic City Power Plant Just sold. Plant 3 Burns Only Oil, Plants 1 & 2 will burn coal and Desk Clutter.

My Idea Is Open Source So Feel Free To Improve On The Idea.

Yeah.  I was really hoping to see some other examples... Though, I've noticed Interact has been oddly quiet today all day anyway.

Is there some weird holiday in the world today that I don't know about?  Are people just still hung over from Labor Day?  What's going on!?!?!   ;)

It seemed funny at the time.

never knew there was a http://www.gnu.org

And it does (but doesn't) stand for Gnu's Not Unix. (http://web.cecs.pdx.edu/~trent/gnu/)

And that's the old version (http://gplv3.fsf.org/gpl-draft-2006-07-27.html) Jim.  RMS (http://www.stallman.org/) wouldn't be impressed...  But then, he rarely is.

I'd love to show you my desk, but I don't have near the equipment that glynor has, and security is so tight at my company that they don't allow cameras in and even if I snuck one in, my photo online would probably be found by somebody and I'd be gone.  :( The only thing I admire on my desk over glynor's is my 2 flat screen monitors together like his.

I could have two 24" Apple or Dell flat-panel displays if I wanted them.  I like CRTs better.  When you do graphics where color accuracy matters, LCDs generally don't give you enough control over the color balance (such as individual RGB gain controls).  Also, the cheaper LCDs are way to slow for video editing use.

I picked those Samsung's out on purpose!   :)

Also kinda makes me laugh that my job is to have cameras at work....

That's pretty sharp for a handheld shot.

Actually it's roughly the same... I haven't gotten to sit here too much, and when I do I've been setting-up/playing with my new computer (bottom right of photo, left-hand machine on floor).  First time I have my own Windows box at work, so that's pretty fun...

There's a lot of software to install (don't worry, MC's already done).
