I've seen quite a lot of requests for being able to show a field as 'Stars' like the rating field
How about altering the library options->user data->data type to include a 'Rate as Stars' option that would let us use the same fancy display instead of a number?
Would anybody else like this option?
I know that if was the sole enhancement in MC12, I'd buy it just for that feature :)
-
I'd LOVE that too.
How hard would it be :P
-

It has been asked for many times
-
..and they still won't provide it !!!
How lucky do you feel :)
-
Not very, but after seeing it come up so many times I thought it was worth a try ;D
-
If they ever do add it, it would be nice to have custom icons that could be added though so you could supply something other than just stars.
-
Yeah that'd be good for easy recognition of different fields :)
Seriously though, the UI is main thing people see and can critisize easily
The 'behind the UI' stuff is pretty darned solid - used defined database fields, easy searching and amazing smartlist support
There's always a 'but' though
There are a few areas that crop up so often that maybe they should be looked at a bit more
They may be minor display quirks (what do we want "Stars!, when do we want them "Now!") or gramatical quirks like useing 'Delete' for removing a track from playing now
In the priority list of things to do I shouldn't imagine they are high on the list, but as a user they affect me every time I use MC
I don't want to select a number from a combobox and clicking on 'delete' makes me cringe every time
The 'delete' irritation is probably what confuses me the most - it's just changing a word ('Remove from playlist' would be better), but apparently not worth spending the time on
These little things are probably a lot more of an issue for the users than the developers - I know that I've written some programs that work like I'd expect and gotten really negative feedback from the users
Most of the time, the fixes were easy but I'm so busy with other complicated parts that I had neglected them
After changing my priorities to fixing the simple things first, I had much better user satisfaction
It is a choice that each team must make by themselves though and the temptation to work on the bits you want to do, as opposed to doing something uninteresting has a really strong attraction
-
PS
It's a good piece of software that makes people argue over silly things like 'stars' and 'the choice of words' - congrats to the team, probably not said enough, but you make a d-a-m-n fine piece of software
-
Totally agree with you guys!
Now I have 3 costum fields for rating. Would be good to have stars for them as well.
The ability to add costum graphics and get as many "steps" in the rating that you want would be even greater. That way you can implement half stars etc...
The rating system have 1 star to little!!! Damn...
-
actually if you had a Image of 1 star (or what ever) they could provide this as a Sliding image.
so you could say Rating would be 1 to 10 and MC could then provide you with a 9.5 stars the .5 would be shown as have of a star, A 9.25 would be 9 and 1\4 of a star etc...
much like they provide now in a progress-bar (I guess)
-
Half stars is good enough, i've asked for just that many a time, but Jim said they had other priorities :(

Slip Matt a $50 and ask him to work late one night ;)
Either that or beers usually work great as an incentive
-
Ill throw in $5 and a Bush beer............anyone else......?
-
I support the request, and also the desire for ½ star ratings. Biggest dilemma for me comes most often between three and four. Not good enough for 4, too good for 3, decisions, decisions...
-
I've often thought about that. What if people put money into a Paypal account to be given to "someone" just so we can get these features that we really want done.
In my discrete math class, our teacher was describing how an organization offered $1 million for a proof to the Brach....something or other formula.

benn,
Please post problems on FLAC in the FLAC plug-in thread.

Me too, but i think it should be user defined
if it was based on Percent Max-Val & Min-Val set by user you could pick whatever you want.
1 To 5 Or 0 To 5 (5 would be 100%)
1 To 10 Or 0 To 10 (10 would be 100%)
1 To 100 Or 0 To 100 (100 would be 100%)
Just like A Progress Bar
Along with lets say you have 1 Wife, 2.5 Kids and 1 Dog all names get added to the user name list and they can rate that track. then there would be a field for a combined average rating. this way you could pick music that all people in your house like, maybe even for a party.
Also users should be able to add there own rating fields, with a selectable path to a image to use for that field. so rating field 1 could have a star, and rated field 2 could have a different image if you wish.

Amen!
