Title: How does MC handle media files?
Post by: Tuckers on September 10, 2006, 06:03:07 pm
When MC gets a request to play a file, does it load the whole file into memory?

When does it move the next file in a playlist or album into memory so there is no gap?

Is there a temp file that MC moves music into prior to putting into memory to play?

Would it be possible to have MC move files that are cued to be played to another drive/folder location before they are played, so the lag of finding files on a slow network is diminished?

pretty much the answer to all your questions is no
as far as I can tell MC only buffers on a track-by-track basis and on a slow drive (like on a network) you can still get gaps

theres another thread about buffering where we were discussing this issue
mainly about having 1Gb of free memory and MC only buffering a few seconds

I think this is the thread you were referring to?
