Title: Does MC use standard RG tags?
Post by: Apesbrain on September 17, 2006, 08:50:55 pm
All of my Ape, Ogg and MP3 files have been ReplayGain'ed by foobar2000.  Why does MC 11.1.198 report that none of my files have ReplayGain values?

I am using the "Not Yet ReplayGained" Smartlist defined in the JMRC (V11.1.198) Help file: mediatype=[audio] [File Type]=[ape],[mp3],[ogg] -artist=[] (replaygain==0 or peaklevel==0 or bpm==0 or intensity==0).  It lists all of my files.

Questions:
- Does MC write its own proprietary RG tags (and that's what the Smartlist above is looking for)?
- Can it read and use tags written by foobar to do Track Gain and Album Gain?

Thanks if you reply.

MC uses the tag "REPLAY GAIN=xxxxxx" where xxxxx is the value.  As long as Foobar writes that, then MC is compatible.  Sorry, I don't know what Foobar writes.

Also, as you noted, the smartlist uses bpm and intensity, and I doubt Foobar writes those.  You may want to try removing those criteria from your smartlist.

By the way, there is no "standard" format for writing these, so each player is free to adopt it's own standard.
