Title: Licence expired on install!
Post by: alanl on October 09, 2006, 05:35:11 pm
I downloaded and installed MC12, which initially told me that the trial would expire on 1/11/06, and gave me the options of purchase/restore/cancel.  I chose restore since I'd already allowed it to remove MC11 as the recommended option, but it didn't accept the licence, and then told me the trial licence had expired, and I had no way of continuing.

I've now uninstalled MC12 and re-installed MC11.  Any suggestions as to how I can get  MC12 beta to run?  BTW I did download MC12 a couple of months ago when it was briefly on public beta, but then un-installed it again when it was pulled.  Would there still be something lurking in the registry?

If you installed 12 previously, Then it is correct, and the trial is expired.

you get a 30 day trial on versions.

why you you select restore if you don't have a license for MC12?

the only way now is to buy

I have the same problem. I installed the MC12 beta when it first became available a few months ago but uninstalled it a few days later as it was too full of bugs and got pulled from public availability anyway. I wasn't going to buy something that was buggy and that I was not able to get updates for. I also didn't consider it to have any features worth upgrading to at the time either.

Now MC12 is available again it is presumably more stable and has features I'm interested in. But I can't try it because my 30 day trial is over. I'm not going to pay for something I can't try first. IMHO if you have an MC11 licence (which I do) you should have access to MC12 throughout beta phase until general release, then a 30 day expiration makes sense.

So I will stay with MC11.

Exactly my situation, except it crashed the first time I tried it.

You could try it on another PC if you have one or can borrow one.

I hope you'll understand that your particular experience isn't entirely within our control.  If you or Alan would like help, please let us know.

I had the same issue too, my 30 day trial was up when I regained access to the v12-Beta forum to download the latest versions.

But I knew that I was going to upgrade and buy it at some time in the future anyway, so I just purchased it now instead of next month.

Thanks Jim.  It would be helpful if there was some way of re-setting the trial period (30 days, 15 days, whatever) to give me, and interbeat too I guess, a chance to see what the enhancements are before upgrading.  (I was going to PM you with this but don't seem to able to.)

If you'll think about this a little, maybe you can guess why we don't provide a way to "reset" trial periods.  Can you try another PC?

I've got an old laptop.  I'll see if it will run on that.  Thanks.

For what it is worth, when I first installed 12 (for the first time) with 11 on the machine it told me I had about 1 day left in the 'trial' period.  I was buying it at the same time, so I didn't care.
