Title: Video stuttering clue?
Post by: JimH on October 11, 2006, 10:13:07 am
Several people have reported a problem playing back videos lately and I ran across this thread at AVSForum:

It talks a little about video stuttering when using ffdshow for certain types of files.

It looks like it is mostly concerned with High-Def content.  Interesting....  I haven't played much with any high-def content (no HDTV at my house), but that could be a problem!

It also mentioned matroska.  It may not be limited to these types of files.

Right, but it was referring specifically to high-def content contained in a MKV file wrapper causing problems.  XviD/DivX content in a MKV file works fine in FFDSHOW.

The problem was that apparently FFDSHOW is loading even when it isn't needed when it thinks it can decode the file.  Unfortunately, FFDSHOW can't properly handle the h264/mpeg-2 high-def content and chokes, causing the stuttering.
