Title: Updating tags from library (for different file format)
Post by: Von on October 11, 2006, 03:04:58 pm
After ripping to ape, I want to archive my lossless files offline and have lossy files for everyday use on my computer. Over time, I put a good deal of effort into tagging my files.

Question: When I wish to replace my mp3, ogg, mpc files or whatever with the lossless ape file again; what is the best way to update the ape files from the library, so that all the new tag info is stored in the ape files?

(The files will have the same names as both lossy and lossless.)

I'd be grateful for any tips!

select the lossy files in question, right click, library tools, find and replace.

select filename in the list, then find .mp3, replace with .ape

using explorer, copy the ape files from the archive to the hard drive, replacing the files you just renamed.

back to MC, select the files, right click, library tools, update tags from library, followed by update library from tags. I'm sure you can see that the order in which you use these two tools is crucial.

Sounds good, I'll try this tonight. (And I see your point about doing things in the right order!)  :)

Thanks!
