Title: Analyze audio and playback issues with small files.
Post by: BartMan01 on October 17, 2006, 01:55:17 pm
Issues with analyze audio:
1. Really short tracks (1-3 seconds) either don't analyze at all, or don't get assigned a BPM.  This causes them to show up as 'unalyzed' in the standard 'needs audio analysis' playlist.  I can add a duration filter if this is a limitation of the audio analysis routine.

2. Some short tracks (an a couple of 20+ second tracks) that converted from WAV to APE fine, and play fine, give 'ERROR' as the result when trying to analyze.  Other tracks of the same length work fine.

3. Batch converting a group of 0-2 second tracks causes MC to crash.

4. Tracks under a second show up with no duration.  Shouldn't they round up to '1' as opposed to being blank?

Playback issues:
Getting audible 'pops' at the end of some short files.  The same pops are not there when played through other software.  After the 'pop', sometimes the next track (or two) is silent.

Try switching playback options betweend DirectSound and Wave Out.

Try updating the sound card driver.

Try different transitions in playback options.

The analyzer will skip very short files.  It's hard to have a real BPM if there's only one beat.

What about the files that just give 'ERROR' (one of them is 23 seconds long).

Can you provide a link to a sample file?

Here you go:  www.pfeffernet.com/temp/can't analyze.ape (http://www.pfeffernet.com/temp/can't analyze.ape)

Yes I know it's low quality, and it's not the end of the world if MC has trouble with it.  Just starting to put ALL my audio/video stuff in here to catalog/cleanup and running across a few tracks that only MC seems to not like.

For audio analysis to work with a file, it must be:

1 or 2 channels
32, 44.1, or 48 kHz

Low quality sound clips are often lower sample rates.

Cool.  Thanks and sorry of the bother then.  Will use a play list to 'exclude' these from my un-analyzed view.
