Title: JRiver - Wikipedia correct?
Post by: Doof on October 17, 2006, 04:07:57 pm
I was just poking around on Wikipedia and found an article about MC. It then had a link to a media players comparison chart.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_media_players

I editted one of the charts to reflect MC's remote control support, but there are a lot of other things listed that I wasn't 100% positive about, so I left them alone. Might it be a good idea to take a quick look and see if everything's correct?

I can't find a reference to a "Plus" version anywhere.

Media Center's predecessor was known as Media Jukebox, but it is no longer developed. Media Jukebox's free "Basic" version with a 30-day trial of "Plus" features is still available for download. The "Plus" version can still be purchased for $14.00, compared to Media Center's higher price tag of $40.00.
but MJ8 can still be purchased for $14.

Maybe that's what they mean.

Doof:

It appears that someone modded your edits back.  That ? is back.

And on a completely separate note, are you Joannna?  If so, sorry for any times I said "him/he/his".   Assumptions making asses and all that... ;D

I can say, with a significant level of confidence, that Doof is not Joannna.

Weird... it still shows as a Yes for me. I have no idea how wikipedia works, so maybe that's normal. I was a little suprised that it let me edit it at all. I never created an account with them or anything. Maybe that's why it only shows for me? No idea.

And no, I'm not Joanna. Who's Joanna?

I didn't think so initially, but someone who logged into Wikipedia with the username Joanna had modified the Media Center entry to say yes.

Then someone modded it to say ?, and then you (apparently) re-modded it to say yes.  It again went back to ? and now it says yes again.

And round and round we go and never stop because it's Wikipedia!   ;)

See, that's why I was suprised it let me edit it. I don't have an account there. :P

The whole point of it though is anyone can contribute :)

It's information for the people provided by the people!

Well, I knew that. But I still expected that you'd have to at least create an account in order to make edits.

Nope.  They've considered changing it, but decided against it.  One change they did make fairly recently is any edits made by non-registered users are "flagged" to be looked at by one of the "expert users" more quickly.

Yeah, they also try to track IP addresses to lock anonymous spammers out that way when needed ..... And although anonymous usrs can submit edits/articles, registered Wiki users tend to be harder on changes made by anonymous editors (anonymous edits are more likely to be switched back/revised if even vaguely controversial or unsubstantiated, and any new links added to the page are often deleted) ... but even "expert users" still have to put up with crazy Wiki vendetta's and arguments and endless revisions.... Which is both the good and the bad thing about the democracy of Wikipedia (and democracy in general, come to think of it).
