Title: Imaging experience? Need a few pointers
Post by: MrHaugen on October 17, 2006, 04:28:35 pm
I want the best possible system with images and backups with scripts/batch jobs. So if anything goes bad there would be only one or two small steps to take before the system are restored.

This is what I want to be able to do:
1. Make images of clients (and other servers if possible) from a sentral image server
2. Restore images localy or from the server.
Preferrably with cmd commands so I can make a script for it.
3. Another program that can be scripted to make backup of my
documents etc. wich are on another drive
4.  Make a script to take backup of MC. I could probably figure out this one my self

If anything goes wrong, all this (except from nr. 1) could be done with a push of a button on my remote. After 5-10 min the system are up and running again and up to date.

How, and with what applications can I do this?
Today I'm using Norton Ghost 9.0. I hate the fact that I need a cd to be able to restore the image.
Any other suggestions?

Some of this was discussed recently.  Try searching for "ghost" in the last 30 days.

Yea. I know. It helped a bit.
Now I might have a better idea on how to take backups of my dokuments etc.

Here it is:

Just hope it is possible to use command parameters on them

But it's mostly a discussion of backup applications. Not imaging in spesific. That's more what I need. Recomendations on script friendly good imaging tools.

Also look at using free VMWare Server to keep things up and running...

Again... I do not think VMWare could fill my needs.
Or are there a super function I have missed out on that could give me what I discribed above?
