Title: Playing now in a smartlist?
Post by: lOth on October 18, 2006, 08:40:52 am
To the smartlists experts: is there any way we can get a smartlist to pull whatever is currently in the Playing Now list? I guess the search argument would be something like playlistid==xxxxxx, but the question is, what would be xxxxxx?

I'm trying to make a smartlist to automatically transfer to my iPod so that I can resume playing whatever I was listening to before leaving home.

not that I can see, no.

plugin authors can pull the playing now list, mere mortals can't.

I don't know how to do it with a smartlist, but you could use a playlist.

Create a playlist called Playing Now.

When you want to transfer your real Playing Now to the iPod, clear the playlist & drag the current content of Playing Now into it.  Then sync the playlist.  It's a little more complicated then using a smartlist, but it would work.

I guess you're right. It's either that or trying to leave my mortal state to become a plugin author. I think I go with the smallest effort and follow your advice.

Or use the workaround until a smart plugin author comes to the rescue. ;D

~d=t ~sort=[date modified]-d ~sort=[Album],[Track #]

If you set Options->General->Advanced to 'Clear playing now on exit', it will only show all that was played since MC was started.

duh!

played a bit with this this afternoon, and sadly, it's not an exact science.

If you're playing full albums sorted by track number, you could probably get close to mirroring the sort order of the playing now list, but [date modified] doesn't change when a file is played if playing a track doesn't cause a tag write.
Sorting by [last played] would push everything just listened to to the bottom of the list, -[last played]=<1d would get rid of recently played tracks altogether.

for a nicely ordered playing now list, the goal is just about achievable, but not so for random playing now lists, though having said that, the wish to pick up a random list and take it with you might not be so great as when listening to complete albums.
