I'm trying to figure out the best Raw digital workflow to use with MC12. I have many images (digital negatives) in Cannon CR2 format. I noticed some options to cache and convert, but not sure how they work. Ideally I would like to have a Raw digital and if i makes some tweaks to it have that saved as a suplementary file somewhere or a jpeg. i do not want to covert eveything to JPEG, that is effectively doubling my storage.
so can someone please explain the RAW options in MC12 and suggest a workflow for MC12?

It is pretty much a viewer. The caching options are mostly there just to make it faster.
I would simply use the specified directory as jpg cache option. Limit the size of the cache dir.
When you setup your views you might want to filter out .cr2s and only deal with the jpg or tiff conversions. Then only deal with the RAW files when you are looking for something you haven't converted. Keeps things simple.
If you've ideas, let me know. We're still trying to determine the best flow for this stuff.

When i start up MC12 i get a DCRaw.exe process that is using up 50% CPU (on a dual process) not sure what it is doing.
Under "Raw Image Settings" I have:
Raw Decode quality = Default
Raw Cache set = None
Cache Directory =""
So what is DCRaw.exe doing? what do the quality and Cache settings do?
I'll suggest a workflow, but its important to be able to see files in Raw format. copy, move, upload, share, etc. should move to jpg.

DCRaw is the raw converter. Presumably it is doing a raw conversion otherwise it should not be running.

perhaps thats for thumnails? it just runs when I launch MC12.

Yeah, it needs to decode them to get the thumbnail.
