My mom, now 82, used to say that you can never get a ripe tomato in Minnesota until August 1. Maybe that's why she moved back to Nebraska a few years ago.
My tomatoes are a briar patch, a jungle. I'm afraid to go near them -- anything could be lurking inside the brambles. But now I see the little green beasties turning yellow and pink. I'm thinking I'll have a BLT by mid-September. And a beer.

We're a little ahead of you in Michigan; tomatoes and corn are at their peak. Had our first BLT last week with freshly picked corn on the cob - yummy! Good things are always worth the wait.

I got one tomato. The big green caterpillars ate the plants AND the little tomatoes. Didn't leave much for the rabbits. Oh well. Out here, we're surrounded by roadside vegetable stands.

I have about five plants and manage to sneak a couple of Romas and Big Boys once or twice a week.
Several years ago had a very large garden, had close to 80 plants. Chickens would get into them. Looked like a nice one, but when you grabbed it the bottom was pecked out! No more chickens, or a garden for that matter.(Sigh) Lack of time these days...

The Tomatoes in supermarkets are mass grown in hot houses, they have no taste.
If you grow your own you will see and taste the dif.
This year I must have had over 600|PLS| tomatoes from my garden, Lots of BLT's & Spaghetti. I put allot up in the freezer for Spaghetti etc…

JollyJim,
A BLT is one of the Four Basic Food Groups. It's a Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato sandwich.

Thanks for posting your IP address. I haven't tried Media Server yet and this should be a good way for me to see what it's all about. Unfortunately, I'm unable to connect. I tried pinging the address, but it returns a "can't find address" message. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm running ZA pro, but shut it down and that didn't help. Any suggestions?

I checked and I did enter 24.88.229.242:80. Pinging in DOS returns the message: "Ping request could not find host 24.88.229.242:80. Please check the name and try again".

I'll say it's worth it - it's incredible! Everytime I think I've discovered all that MJ has to offer, there's a new surprise waiting. Thanks again, King and JRiver .

Back to the tomato topic, we seem to have some kind of blight every year in our garden. Although we get dozens (hundreds?) of great tomatoes, the plants look terrible by mid August. In July they're huge green leafy beasts, but later in August all the leaves blacken and shrivel up, leaving just the red tomatoes clinging onto shrunken stalks. Anyone else have this problem (and know of a fix?).

>> August all the leaves blacken and shrivel up
You may need to spray them with a Anti Fungual Spray
I think the recomended spray is like 7-14 days, it may depend on what you use.

Thanks for the tip King, we'll try that next year.
