I'm getting permission errors when I try and rip from my CD drive or burn to my DVD/CD burner drive. The error says I need to have Admin rights to access the drives. When I log in as Admin, that works, but I don't want to grant admin rights to all the users on this machine. There must be something else going on. Computer is a dell xps 400 with the stock drives.
Other programs like real player and media player all work fine.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Mike

Can you copy your system info from MC Help and paste it here? It might help.

I don't know if this matters, but when I installed the program, I was logged in as a non-admin.
Thanks for any help,

Just for kicks I uninstalled everything and downloaded a clean version as an admin. I installed that as an admin and here is the sys info from that install:
Media Center 11.1.200 -- C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\
Microsoft Windows XP Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Intel Pentium 4 2793 MHz MMX / Memory: Total - 1046 MB, Free - 450 MB

Ripping / Drive D: SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615 Mode:ModeSecure Type:Auto Speed:Max
Drive E: HL-DT-STDVD+-RW GWA4164B Mode:ModeSecure Type:Auto Speed:Max

Use playback settings: No /
This install works perfectly, but only for admins. For non-admins, the sys info is as above. And I can't play from either drive although the song information shows up on the screen. MC won't recognize the burner drive at all as a burner and wont' play from it. Other programs recognize the drives fine.
thanks,
mike

Here's another twist. I've been playing with MC11 in Admin mode just to try and evaluate it. I'm able to play from both disks, but when I tried to do a rip (in secure mode) from my CD drive, MC says its calculating the cache size and then it crashes completely. MC shuts down and windows sends an error report. Its done it 3 times in a row now, so its clearly not a one off problem.
Another difference b/w admin and other users: I noticed that the CD information service would say it couldn't find the track info when I was logged in as a non-admin, but as an admin, it had no trouble finding the CD information in the database. If its relevant, I am running safe eyes content filter for the kids, but its set wide open whether I'm in as an admin or myself.
I've downloaded MC 12 to see if that version works any better. I really like this program - it does everything I need it to do. i just wish I could get it working..
thanks for any help.

Problem appears to have been hardware related. I had Dell swap out the DVD drive, reinstalled windows (at their request) and all is now right with the world. I'm using MC 12 with no problems at all. Fantastic program.
