For some reason MC isnt storing video thumbnails correctly because every time i go to look for a video, it is rebuilding all the thumbnails for the video files ...
Any reasons you can think of?
MC 12.0.104
I have Thumnail exit behavior set to ERASE ORPHANS
The files are located on a network drive (\\NetworkPC\Share)

try going to:
tools, options, library and folders, options.
How is "fix broken links" configured?
Ideally, you want it set to "Yes (leave network files)"
If this is what's happening, you can verify it by checking the import date of your video files. I'd not be surprised if they're being removed from the library and re-imported on a daily basis.

Marko, that is how I have it set already. Any other ideas?
Could it be the size of the thumbnail libraries?
Large == 98 Megs
Medium == 33 Megs
Small == 16 Megs
I've done an erase all, and rebuild all before as well .... to no avail

Not sure. I had some problems back in august....
MC's baulking building .mpg thumbnails... http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=34956.0
and I remember that when it baulked, none of the thumbs already built were saved, so next session, the whole process kicked off again from scratch.
It was only after breaking them down into filetype groups, and using the tree to browse them so as to only load one set at a time that I found the problem files.
Since then, they all have thumbs, and the thumbs are sticking correctly.

Marko,
There are certainly files that do NOT produce thumbnails ... are you stating that if MC cant create a thumbnail it isnt updating its thumbnail database and when I reload ... it all has to happen again ??
Hmmmmm
And you just broke the files down into smaller groups and that worked?
When is the thumbnail database saved? On EXIT of MC ?

As a test, try a new library with a few files.
Make sure you aren't restoring backups, trying to relocate your thumbs, sharing the library with clients, or doing something else tricky.
Does the problem still persist?

Matt, Sorry for the ignorance .. but what does all that mean ... I'm not new AT ALL with MC ... but I know how to create a new library and not from a backup ... how would I "relocate thumbs", and what does "sharing with clients" mean ... via SMB Shares or via Media Library ?

All I meant was keep it simple. Then if it works, add complexity slowly. It may help pinpoint the issue.

I am losing thumbs using the new shared database feature, not restoring libraries or anything complex. The occurs when switching which PC has write & read only attributes.
