Title: "Failed to Play TV"
Post by: darichman on November 29, 2006, 05:10:09 am
I have a dell USB TV analog tuner. I have never been able to get it to work with MC. It works fine with Windows Media Center.

Every time I click on options in the TV menu, I get the message:

Failed to Play TV. unknown error

What could the problem be?

Can you see any improvement in MC 12.0.122?

Sorry, I missed this.

No, unfortunately, no improvement with either 12.0.122 or 12.0.123.

Hey guys.

I'm still unable to use TV.  Using 12.0.139

Any suggestions? I don't like Windows Media Center very much....

Same problem here.  Standard external USB analog tuner that ships with the new Dells.  Works fine with Windows Media Center.  No luck with J River Media Center.

Sorry. Can you send me another log file please? Last time I could not find anything obvious in the log you sent. There has been various changes since then, including logging changes. Maybe something will come up. Thanks.

A new build is out.

The following is for you:

Quote
13. NEW: Preliminary support of "AVerMedia USB" analog TV device. It may not work yet.

If you see any progress, we can continue improving it. Otherwise, I will need to get the device to go further. Either way we will get it eventually.

It works! Well done guys :) :)

Can't seem to get time shifting or recording working, and there is some erratic white flashing during playback, but being able to watch TV is good enough for me for now!

Thanks again.

These will come next. I did not plunge into coding for these because I needed to make sure I was on the right track.

Time-shifting and recording for this device are now available in build 12.0.226. Please test.

Yaobing,
You're getting awfully good at implementing support for devices you don't have.

Thanks,

Jim

This one is easier because a log file revealed that it was similar to Hauppauge's WinTV DVR devices. I just modeled it after the already supported Hauppauge devices.

I can happily report that time-shifting and recording work as expected in 12.0.226

1. The flickering issue mentioned above still occurs episodically (but regularly) during playback and everytime while zooming.
2. I have also noticed that every now and then MC becomes unresponsive for up to 10 seconds, and this has happened during playback and when navigating TV options. I am confident that i could reproduce this again if a log would be helpful.

Thanks again

PS looks like you can add Dell USB Analog TV Tuner to the list of supported devices.
