Hi, I read in the archives that MC can support the Rio Cali if you turn on WMDM support. Problem is, I can't seem to do that. I go to Tools->Plugin Manager->Handheld->Portable Drives but the configure button is greyed out. This is MC 11.1.200. Thanks...

On some devices, the firmware determines what they support. Maybe check their website or google for more information.

I don't understand your response. I can't click on configure. I don't see the device. I can't download any plugins. What's with this WMDM business? Does the device have to be "seen" by MC before I can do anything?

I "think" you're in the wrong place desertsand.
The configure button is visible on alot of plugins for
Media Center in the plugin manager even if it's not relevant.
In this case I don't think it's relevant.
All the configuring of Handheld devices is done in the Tools, Options, Handhelds
area as far as I know.
According to the help file
"Media Center supports any device that is WMDM compatible and any device that appears to your PC as a removable or fixed drive."
I'm guessing what Jims saying is double check that your device is WMDM compliant.
Your device isn't popping up under drives and devices?
Or in Tools, Options Handhelds?
Someone else will probably chip in something more useful here, I don't
use a handheld device myself.
I'm guessing you're refereing to a post (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?PHPSESSID=39de71e198a5e828043be3aea2076e64&topic=17291.msg118397) by SteveG back in 2003.
More from the MC Help file
"Since MC 10
WMDM Devices will auto detect on connection and removal."
Hence the Configure part is now no longer needed.

Probably!

No, it's not unfortunately...

Yup, that's one of the posts I was looking at ... here's another one: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=17943.0 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=17943.0)

Okay, but others have used this device with some versions of MC, so I think it must be supported ... hmm ...

WMDM is Windows Media Device Manager, part of Microsoft's DRM scheme.
Did you check for newer firmware for the device? Or try a google search?

Yes, I have installed the newest firmware. I tried a couple google searches and the most relevant hit referred to the thread I mentioned earlier. I just wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Others have mentioned that they have used their Rio Cali w/ Media Center, so something must give.

desertsand,
One thing you can try is to redetect all devices in Handheld Options - the device may have inadvertantly gotten on the "ignore this device" list.
Can you post your system information from the MC11 Help menu?
Thanks,
Rick
