Just downloaded build 147 and to my delight, DVT-T TV is working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Channel scan took a while but it found all my channels. A couple of issues though :-
1. Channel changing is EXTREMELY slow. 10-20 seconds and sometimes it will crash MC.
2. SPDIF audio is working but I'm not getting AC3 signals to my external amp. I've tried different filters but they all work ok with other video content from within MC - ie, I get AC3/DTS signals fine. Also, my existing tv playback software is working fine for the same channels.
3. When I try to modify a channel's name, a dialog pops up prompting me to enter a signal bandbwidth number 7 or 8. I enter 7 (even though it's already there) but it doesn't recognise this and I cannot proceed.
I'll keep messing and will report back anything else I find.
Please let me know if I can assist in any way to get this right. It's looking good!!!....

I wondered if there were any DVB-T users among beta testers during the last two weeks. ;D I should have remembered you. I ended up enlisting a non-beta-tester, emailing him updates daily.
Thanks for reporting. I will work on these.
3. Strange. It should ask only if the entered value is not 7 or 8.
For your info, you do not need to click the Modify button if you only need to change the channel's name. You can do it on the list directly. Click twice on the name (but not double-click, i.e. do not do it too fast), the cell will be in edit mode. Alternatively you can right-click a channel, and select "Edit Station Name".
Having said that, however, there is another bug in that area that prevents the change from being saved if you do it on the Scan Channels dialog. Do it on the "TV Channels" property page (the parent window of "Scan Channels"), it will be OK.

Thanks Yaobing. I will be happy to assist and I look forward to fixes for the above.
Now that I can finally watch tv with MC I have some cosmetic suggestions and questions if I may? Please bare in mind that my primary MC installation is on a HTPC in the living room running MC's THEATER VIEW :-
1. When I start tv, would it not be possible please to automatically begin playing the last channel that was viewed? Perhaps it could be an option?
2. Also, when starting tv (again, all from theater view) is it necessary to show the dialog box showing "starting tv..."? This looks rather odd against the Theater View interface. Perhaps this message could simply be shown not on a dialog but on the display view. Just like the "Opening..." message which is shown when waiting for a video or song to play.
3. There is no hotkey sequence for changing aspect ratios therefore I cannot do this by remote control. I requested this a little while back. Any chance this could be included please? It would be a good feature for MC overall.
4. How do I change channels directly (remote control only!)? Can I assign keyboard keys to channels so that hitting '7' gives me channel 7 and '9' gives me channel 9 etc..?
5. Can I add custom images (coverart) to channels? This would be great!
6. Finally, this may be more work but would it be possible to create a "Favourites" channel list which is a subset of the fully scanned channel list? My channel scan picked up 40 odd stations but I only wanted a handfull of these. It would be good if my primary channel list only contained the channels I wanted to see. I know I can remove channels I don't want but this would mean a complete rescan to choose a channel I missed or wanted to include in the future.
Once again, thanks for your efforts in this department and I can't wait for further updates!

OK you have my attention now!
I'd almost given up on DVB-T support working but am also excited to see .147 is starting to show some posivite signs.
I'm also in Australia so am happy to help test/report what I can.
I can confirm that channel changing is VERY slow, haven't had a crash yet but it does take a good 10 to 15 seconds to change.
I also can't get the HD channels to play, the tuner locks on (I get a lock LED on the tuner) but I get no video/audio. (raym can you get the HD channels to play?)
Like raym I'm a theater View user, so his requests in his previous post are certainly high on my requirements list too, especially the hot key channel changing.

Having said that, however, there is another bug in that area that prevents the change from being saved if you do it on the Scan Channels dialog. Do it on the "TV Channels" property page (the parent window of "Scan Channels"), it will be OK.
I can't get changes in Channel name to save anywhere I try to do it.
They always go back to the original name, this is in the TV Options page AND the Scan page.

Great! Any luck on the AC3/DD problems? And your thoughts on my suggestions above?

I am working on the AC3 channel problem. I may need you guys provide log files when the next build is out, so I can get more ideas.
Other things will be on the table when the basic stuff is worked out.
1. Maybe.
2. Maybe.
3. Yes, either keyboard combo or MC command.
4. Difficult. One big problem is to sort out how to tell a request is for a digital channel or an analog channel. So if you press "2", the program will not know whether it is for the analog channel 2, or the second digital channel. Besides, it is hard to represent a digital channel using just a few digits. "Channel 9" may have many subschannels. Before DVB-T, I was thinking about using 5 digit number, such as 10702, which means digital channel 7-2 (anything shorter than 5 digits is an analog channel). This will obviously not work for DVB-T since a tranport stream ID alone could be 4 digit long.
5. Don't know.
6. I think you can create a custom view.

Just a though on this one;
If we could assign our own hotkey to a channel then it can be any length number.
So we could assign "9" to Channel Nine SD Digital and say "90" to Channel Nine Analog. Then we just send "9<enter>" or "90<enter>" to change channels.
This is what my current software does.

That's fine. I just wanted to put it out there now for consideration. Thanks.
Re the direct channel changing stuff, I had the same thing in mind as Richard.
Thanks.

In the next build, channel switching should be faster.
Hi Yaobing. Yes it is!!! Very fast indeed. :D
I've emailed you a log file for the AC3/DD issue (via spdif out). It should show the following:-
1. Starting TV Playback (channel Nine Digital). PCM audio only (as expected) and ok!
2. Switched to channel Nine Digital AC3. No change in the audio stream. Still PCM.
3. Switched to channel Nine Digital HD. No audio at all.
Im using the same audio and video filters used through-out MC for other video playback and AC3/DTS streams work fine.
Thanks heaps!
Ralf.

Hi All - I'm new to the beta team but have been testing for Yaobing the DVB-T stuff since Christmas and he as done a great job ;D. FYI - I'm in Sydney Australia and using a DVICO DVB-T Plus tuner as part of a HTPC setup with MC in Theater View connected by DVI & S/PDIF to a Yami V2600 then to a Hitachi Plasma using HDMI.
I've just had a quick play with the latest version and updated my latest notes from the TV Forum:
1) Scanning Support - Only did 2 scans but the first one still missed a group of channels (this time all of the Nine Network) - but I did not have logging on this time - second time it got them all. Will test more later. All channels were found in the first 35% and by then the "stop scan" button does not do anything - had to wait till it got to 100%
2) Tuning - Much Much quicker - Under 10 Sec for first channel, under 5 Sec for a new channel in another group, and only a sec or so for a new channel in the same group and this is now on par with "Nero Home" but not as responsive as the DVICO SW.
3) AC3/DD: Same status on the lack of AC3/DD audio feeds.
3). TimeShift works fine (on the non HD AC3 channels) but has a 10 sec delay/black screen before it starts.
4) Recording to dvr-ms file ONLY works if TimeShift is on but also suffers another 10 sec delay/black scrren before it starts (if TimeShift is OFF it give a blue screen the first time, then records the blue screen to an AVI file the second time manual recording is selected). Interestingly these dvr-ms files are 704x480 (is this some NTSC size) yet the DVICO SW saves the stream as a full 720x576 (did not test the HD ones given I can not save HD files in MC yet but in DVICO it saves them as 1440x1080)
While the DVB-T (and digitial TV support in general) is developing rapidly, I'd personnel suggest that the focus should be in order of priority:
1) Stable & Reliable Scan & Tunning - Looks like it is almost there!
2) Manual Recording - need to fix the "must have time shift on" bug.
3) Remote Control - will post more but for example to run this from TheaterView you really need to add the REC button to start and the STOP button to stop the manual recoding.
4) Schedule Recoding - need to be able to schedule future recordings
5) AC3/DD support - I can live with this one for now as I've got access to the similcast SD channels with analoge sound.
6) EPG Support - I don't really care but I know alot of people do but this one is hard as it needs customisaion for each country
7) External Tuner Integration - Way down the track but......Using the Video/Audio in and IR Blasters, some HTPC software can "map" channels from an external turner (eg Cable / Sat box) enabling full timeshift / record and a one interface for controlling channels sources for a tuner card AND the Cable box.
Thanks
Nathan

Installed build 150 and did a complete re-scan. All channels in my area were found ok.
AC3/HD Issue
2. Changed: More tweaks in DVT-T tuning for AC3/HD channels.
Still not getting AC3 streams (PCM only) and no audio at all on HD channels. Let me know if you need another trace.
"Crop" Aspect Ratio Bug
There seems to be a problem with the "Crop" aspect Ratio setting. When first setting this (from an alternate setting, say "Source") it looks great. Fills the entire tv screen (testing on an old 4:3 tv). Checking the zoom setting in use it appears to be around 130%. If I stop playback, and start it again, the image becomes way too big. If I check the zoom ratio now, it's gone right up to 200%. For some reason, this zoom value sticks from this point on.
Note: I have VMR enabled under Digital TV settings (in case that makes any difference).
Thanks.
Edit: There's definately something strange happening here... I re-started MC and now the image is not cropping AT ALL!

Yes, please send me a log file.

Yes, please send me a log file.
Ok, done. Same test as before. Ie,
1. Starting TV Playback (channel “Nine Digital”). PCM audio only (as expected) and ok!
2. Switched to channel “Nine Digital AC3”. No change in the audio stream. Still PCM.
3. Switched to channel “Nine Digital HD”. No audio at all.
Thanks.

Hi Yaobing - also sent Log Files:
- SCAN.LOG: Picked up all the channels & naming is better. FYI the Australian channels with the same names broadcast the same content - I don't know if this is for better coverage (but I get them all) or that they are yet to use these channels for other content so just put out the same feed....so I recon you can drop the channel info all together from the name.
- TUNE.LOG: Tuning seems to be quicker again but still no AC3/DD (I did the test from TheaterView using the Chapter FWD/RWD buttons which worked fine
Also a couple of other comments:
1) still says "no signal" in the bottom message when changing channels
2) Channel Numbering Idea: How about letting the users allocate a unique number to any channel (probably a 3 digit code) to get around the issues of MC knowing what channel on what source is being requested. That way a user could press "100" and select a specific channel from the DVB-T Tuner then "101" from the analogue and one day "102" could use the IR Blasters to change the set-top box to the requried channel and switch MC to the Video Input to receive said channel.
Thanks

DVB-T TV Progress
How about DVB-C progress? Is DVB-C different from MC's point of view?
This apartment building is connected with cable and the used standard is DVB-C.
I don't have a DVB-C device for PC yet. Any recommendations?

2) Channel Numbering Idea: How about letting the users allocate a unique number to any channel (probably a 3 digit code)...
As dscussed previously, this is a good idea. Ie, let the user define what keys they want to press to load whatever channel in whatever source they want. Dunno about the 3 digit code thing though. I'd still want to be able to just hit the '7' key to go to Channel 7 (for instance) if i so desired... The less keys pressed on the remote the better!
Thanks.

Agree - but you would have one of two options,
1) you could have the ability to accept different length strings so that you do not need leading 0's. eg you could have "7" or "10" or "101" but you would need either a time gap OR use of the OK key for MC to know you have finished entering your seleciton.
2) you have just a 3 digit code (like you pace/foxtel cable box) eg "107" = Ch7, "110" = Ch10.

MC should be smart enough to know what to do.
If you have say 7 , 9 and 0 defined as channels then pressing 7 should jump straight to that channel.
If on the other hand you had 7, 71, and 0 defined, then pressing 7 would mean MC waits for a second for another keypress and then changes channel. Pressing 0 would change immediately as there is no other channel starting with 0.
An <enter> would signal immediate change so 7<enter> would be quicker than 7 and waiting for the timeout.
This way you can have whatever coding system you want, but also just single digits if you want them.

10. Change: DVB-T channel changing remaps audio PID on demultiplexor, to try to show ac3 audio.
Have sent the following log files:
1) SCAN.LOG - Captured the issue where a group of channels get missed even though I can hear them during the scanning phase (this time the Ch7 Group)
2) TUNE.LOG - Tried the AC3 channels and you now occasional digitial sound (like burts of bitstream being sent over PCM) then MC hangs
Nathan
-
What happens if you go straight to a HD channel, i.e. "NINE HD" directly, instead of first "NINE DIGITAL", then "NINE DIGITAL AC3", then "NINE HD"?
-
1) Playing "Nine HD" first get no sound and the some initial / occasional digitial noise the no sound at all and MC will end up hanging (requires a reboot as MC will not run a second time)
2) Playing "Nine AC3" first get PCM sound AND digital noise over the top and MC will end up hanging (requires a reboot as MC will not run a second time)
3) Playing "Nine" first get PCM sound - all is fine
Nathan

Hey Yaobing. Tried a rescan today on a different card and struck all sorts of issues. It's a DVICO DVB-T Plus - same as jmone's so don't know why I'm having issues. I think there's some kind of country code problem. MC isn't selecting Australia for me by default. I've sent you a few logs.
As it is right now, I can't scan (and therefore watch) anything :(
Thanks.
-
2) Playing "Nine AC3" first get PCM sound AND digital noise over the top
I get this too. (log Nine-ac3.txt)
Playing Nine HD I only get digital noise and no real sound. (log nineHD.txt)
I am also getting the error "Unable to Play TV (Unknown Error)" every time I OK or Cancel out of the TV Options/setings screen. (log Failed to pay.txt)
Log files have been emailed.

I had this prob with the builds around Christmas but once I got Australia selected (and it sometime did take a few goes are reseting, reselecting etc) all was good.

For diagnosing, can you check registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 12\TV Settings
for the values of "Country Code" and "Country Name". Try manually setting them.

I checked these and they seem to be set ok (even though the Country drop-down box on the option's page was initially blank).
Whenever I click on the "Digital Chan" button on the TV options page (to init a new scan) I get the error: Unable to Play TV (Unknown Error). As I said, I've sent some logs of this. Hopefully you'll be able to make some sense of what's going on...
Thanks.

Using 152 - have sent logs. Still get the same results as 151 with digital noise on the DD channels except MC now crashes (not just freezes) after a few seconds on tuning to one of these channels.
-
Just installed 152 also.. Still no joy. Can't even scan channels >:(
Yaobing, I have sent you another log file ("ScanIssue.log"). Below are the steps performed. Before I started MC, I deleted the "TV Settings" registry key.
1. Started MC and selected "TV Tuner > Options"
2. At the Network Type dialog I selected the DVB-T radio button and hit ok
3. At the Video Standard dialog
a) the coutry code drop-down list is empty and unselectable, ie, I cannot choose anything
b) radio buttons for cable/antenna ok. I selected antenna and hit ok
c) info message shown: "Device driver returned an empty list of supported video formats. Tuner many not work correctly."
4. Continued with Audio Settings etc
5. At the "TV Configuration" dialog, country was set to United States but I was able to set it to Australia (I confrimed this later in the registry).
6. Clicked on the "Digital Chan" button to init a scan but I get: "Failed to play TV. (unknown error)". I cannot proceed beyond this point.
The log extract below may or may not be relevant to this issue but I thought it could be. Again, I have confirmed that the country code is set ok in the registry :-

WARNING: I'm about to completely contradict my last post!!!!!!!!!
Yaobing, a new set of logs are on their way!
SCANNING
After leaving the PC for a while and trying a scan 1 more time, to my surprise, MC finally started searching for channels.... very strange! Unfortunately it's not finding all channels though. I've run it a few times and a different set of channels is picked up each time.
PLAYBACK
Playback of the channels that were detected seems ok except for:-
1. When I first start playing a channel, I get a message on the OSD saying: "Cannot setup TvTuner Code: 0x80004005". This eventually goes away though and the channel starts playing normally. Switching to a new channel after playback has started does not show this message. Ie, it happens only when MC is stopped and something is played for the first time.
2. Channel changing in this build is generally quite a bit slower than in previous builds.
HD and AC3
For the HD and AC3 channels MC did find, these are now working!!!!! What seems to happen though is I hear a brief burst of audio (PCM stream according to my amplifier) and then a second or two later, the AC3 audio becomes audible. It looks like MC is cycling through the available streams before it finds the AC3. As far as the video goes, it's 1080i as expected and looks great.
Don't know why things started working all of a sudden.... as I said, I've captured a few logs!
Thanks
-
Hi raym, sound great - tried again on mine but same result as before - do you know what Audio / Video filters are being used? Also I always get the "Cannot setup TvTuner Code: 0x80004005" error when the TV first starts up. I also still get scans where not all the channel groups are picked up.
-
Thanks to both of you!
At least there is a little progress.
A few things I would like to mention:
SCANNING - There has been little change since last couple of builds except saving an extra flag for AC3 audio.
This is caused by the NTSC analog tuner on your device. It probably does not affect the functioning of digital TV. I will get rid of it (at least the message).
2. Channel changing in this build is generally quite a bit slower than in previous builds.
According to Microsoft's documentation, I would submit a tune request, after the station is tuned to, examine which audio streams are available and make a choice and RESUBMIT the tune request. That probably is what made it slower. I need to find a way to do it in one shot if possible.
HD and AC3
Even for HD channel, where there is only AC3 audio, DirectShow still builds a graph with MPEG2 Audio as audio format and I have to change that after the channel is tuned to.
0352047: 544: TV: CGenericHDTV::LoadFrequencyMap: Start
0352047: 544: TV: CGenericHDTV::LoadFrequencyMap: Gave country code 61 to IFrequencyMap. hr=0x80004001
0352047: 544: TV: CGenericHDTV::LoadFrequencyMap: get_CountryCode returned 0x80004001, CC=61
0352047: 544: TV: CGenericHDTV::LoadFrequencyMap: put_FrequencyMapping. hr=0x80004001
0352047: 544: TV: CGenericHDTV::LoadFrequencyMap: get_CountryCodeList failed 0x80004001
0352047: 544: TV: CGenericHDTV::LoadFrequencyMap: get_DefaultFrequencyMapping failed 0x80004001
0352047: 544: TV: CGenericHDTV::LoadFrequencyMap: get_FrequencyMapping failed 0x80004001
0352047: 544: TV: CGenericHDTV::LoadFrequencyMap: Finish (0 ms)
This is caused by some experimental code that I forgot to remove. All it says is that the methods I tried are "not implemented".
Empty country list on "Video Standard" dialog:
There is now a check box "Show all countries", to let you list all countries, in case you get an empty list, or in case the list does not contain your country.
-
Thanks to you Yaobing! SOunds like you're on top of the issues.
I forgot to mention 2 things:-
1. Timeshifting on HD channels pauses ok, but I cannot resume playback (ie, it remains paused). I will send you a log of this.
2. There is now a check box "Show all countries", to let you list all countries, in case you get an empty list, or in case the list does not contain your country.
This check box was not responding to any mouse clicks. I could not check it.
Thanks.
Jmone, to answer your question:-
Hi raym, sound great - tried again on mine but same result as before - do you know what Audio / Video filters are being used?
I'm using the Cyberlink PowerDVD 7 filter for video and Intervideo WinDVD 6 for Audio. This has consistently been the best "one-solution-for-all" combination on all my systems.
-
Att: rpalmer68 / jmone:
Have either of you been able to get MC to scan 7 HD? This is the only channel I've never been able to get it to find. Would be interested if you guys have.
There might be something unique about this channel which Yaobing may need to know??
Thanks.
-
"7 HD Digital" is absent from both your log file and jmone's. Instead, you got "7 SD Digital". This could be just a TV broadcaster's change.
-
;D WOW - DD WORKS ;D - Well done Yaobing
1) I am using the NVIDIA Video & Audio Filters (was using FFD for Audio before)
2) According to the NVIDIA control panel I am receiving 2.1 and 2.0 DD on both the AC3 and HD channels (my amp reports 2.0 for all) - will need to find a 5.1 broadcast to test multichannel properly
3) There is some instability in switching between MPEG and DD channels in the same Channel group - MC eventually freeses - I've sent the usual log files
4) No idea where 7 HD went - I also now only get 7 SD with MPEG sound but this may be becase all their channels are showing the Tennis?
Thanks for all the work!
Nathan
FYI found this at http://www.dba.org.au/index.asp?sectionID=14 (http://www.dba.org.au/index.asp?sectionID=14) but basically for Syd Aust:
- ABC SD is MPEG & DD 2/0 or DD 5.1
- ABC HD is DD 2/0 or DD 5.1
- 7 SD is MPEG
- 7 HD is MPEG or DD 2/0
- 9 SD is MPEG & DD 2.0
- 9 HD is DD 2/0 or DD 5.1
- 10 SD is MPEG
- 10 HD is DD 2/0
- SBS SD & HD is MPEG
Next DD5.1 is not till tommorow night!
-
It's curious how this suddenly started working for you also don't you think?
Anyway....
Regarding 7HD, this channel definately exists - I'm watching it right now! It's actual name is "7 HD Digital". I just did a scan using my old tv software and it found it no probs. Also, MC is picking up a channel called "7 SD Digital" but this is not one which I've ever seen (where I'm living anyway). All the other "7" channels are right. Maybe MC is confusing "7 HD Digital" for "7 SD Digital". Here are the details for "7 HD Digital" (based on my other software and location) if this helps:-
Freq (Khz) = 177500
Bandwidth = 7
Video PID = 833
MPEG2 PID = 0
AC3 Audio PID = 835
PMT PID = 832
PCR PID = 833

There has been little change since last couple of builds except saving an extra flag for AC3 audio.
Well, I'm not sure what's going on here but scanning is behaving strange. I've tried it a few more times and now it isn't showing me any 9 digital channels even though while scanning, I can hear it playing back!
Finally, I have sent a new log for the HD timeshifting issue. The actions I performed are:-
1. Started TV set to "9 HD" (in normal playback mode)
2. Paused playback ("video paused" OSD message appears")
3. Re-started playback - pressed play
4. OSD indicates that playback has restarted but video is still paused.
5. Only option is to Stop playback and video resumes (in normal playback mode).
As discussed, channel switching and initial TV startup is quite slow but it sounds like you know the cause of this so I look forward to any improvements here...
Thanks.

It's curious how this suddenly started working for you also don't you think?
Earlier in my testing I went through all the different Filter combo's but this was pre the PID change. The give away was hearing the digital noise over the top of the MPG Audio track (in Oz the SD channels broadcast both MPG Audio and SD on some channels) - as soon as I changed the Filter from "let Direct Show Choose" to NVIDA the filter picked has picked up the correct output pin for the DD feed (all a guess of course :D). Next is to settle down the stability the add/fix:
- Time Shift
- Manual Record
- Schedule Recording
- Pass through from external boxs (eg Cable/Sat - for us Foxtel)
- and waaaay down the track the holy grail of integration with all the differnt EPG's in the world (good luck!)
-
Regarding 7HD, this channel definately exists - I'm watching it right now!
Bandwidth = 7
Video PID = 833
MPEG2 PID = 0
AC3 Audio PID = 835
PMT PID = 832
PCR PID = 833
Program Number = 1332

Program Number (Service ID) 1332 is the same one for "7 SD Digital" that showed in your earlier log file. PMT PID also match. Audio and video PIDs differ. Therefore there is still very strong likelyhood that scanning at different times would produce different result depending on what the broadcaster does at the time you scan.
Did you try scanning in MC at the time when your other program picked up "7 HD Digital"?
If the broadcaster changes audio format from time to time (as opposed to offering both formats simultaneously) it spells trouble for us.
By the way, in the next build, there will be a "Wait Longer" checkbox on Scan Channels dialog. Hopefully longer timeout value will allow all channels to be picked up.
-
Ok. Thanks.
I'll try the "wait longer" options and post back my findings.
Did you try scanning in MC at the time when your other program picked up "7 HD Digital"?
Not simultaneously but immediately after, yes.
Thanks.

According to what I found - CH7 HD is the ONLY channel that changes between MPG Audio and DD!

V 155 Results:sent the usual logs.
Same as before for Scanning and Tuning: Still an issue with stability that I "think" is only when switching between channels in the same group (the "Tune.log" should show MC hanging as I switched between NineHD, NineAC3 and Nine). I even got a BSOD at one point (but lost the log that was runnning).
Also what does "Use YUV Mixing Mode", "Dynamic Decemation" and "Dynamic Switch to BOB" settings do? I've tried a few different combo's and while the picture "seems" to be best with them all unchecked I thought I'd ask
Thanks

Scanning seems more consistent for me (in terms of picking up all channels) if I do a "reset tv settings" first. Where I have problems is if I attempt back-to-back scans or immediately after playing some tv. I don't know if this makes any sense to you Yaobing?... Also, I'm still not picking up the "7 HD Digital" channel but I'm less concearned about this as my old software didn't pick this up today either. I think it's a braodcasting problem. Will try again when I am certain a HD program is being broadcast.
Timeshifting is still problematic only on HD channels. As reported previously, once paused, I cannot resume. All I can do is stop to return to live tv. TS works fine for all other channels - even AC3 ones.
I'm not sure if the channel change speed has been worked on in this latest build but it still seems pretty much the same. 3-5 seconds on my system. Still no where near as reponsive as it was a few builds ago.
Fianlly, when I set the TV display aspect ratio to "CROP" for my old 4:3 tv, the settings seem to only stick when I first set it to "STRETCH" and then "CROP". In any case, I'm having some difficulties getting CROP to work consistently but I'll keep my eye on this.
PS - This was a problem with normal MC video playback some time ago which was later fixed. The bug may still be present in the TV portion of MC?
Looking good overall!!
Thanks.

The log file you sent last time did not contain any TV related entries (except one line saying which channel MC is going to play), and is very short. I wonder if it got truncated or you forgot to turn on TV logging type. In any case, can you send another one? Many sure you send it as zipped file, not as plain text file.

I did try. But my effort did not seem to make any effect on this issue :(

These are mainly for CPU/Video device resource conservation (especially the latter two). YUV mixing mode uses much less resource than the older mechanism, and is useful in mixing closed captioning or teletext on video, which MC does not do. It is useful also in case video card is not powerful. Dynamic decimation actually reduces video resolution. Do not use it unless your video card can not handle the large video in HDTV.

Nope. That was all it produced! All logging options were enabled.
I will generate another one for you though - no problem.

OK - sent a bunch more logs from V156.
1) Scan.Log - Scanned fine, found two lots of the Ch9 group (but only one was added to the Channels) & 7HD is back (the test loop was running - more on that later)
2) Tune.Log - Hope it captured the Hang (going from Ch9 AC3 to Ch9 HD). It feels like the tune request is outstanding and is never returned. You can then try to tune 1 More channel and this makes it hang. I've also attached Tune After Crash.Log that shows you get more tunning problems if you do not reboot (eg restarting MC on its own does not fix the problem).
3) TimeShift & Hang.Log - this was should capture the problem with Timeshift on the HD channels (you don't get any picture or sound but the *.JT* timeshift files are created and grow). This also may have captured another hang as I was switching channels
4) AC3 Stuttering.Log - Ch9 AC3 started audio stuttering (video was fine). The Amp was reporting the audio channel was dropping in and out every half second or so - This may be a one off as I did not reboot the PC from the last crash - will keep an eye (ear) or for this one.
5) Recording - Used Ch9 as the test - same as before. You need time shift on first.
General News:
- 5.1DD works! ;D I got the Ch7HD test loop and in was in 5.1! (just before going back to the Tennis which the wife if now watching so no more testing for now!)
- Huge Bandwidth on Ch7HD - My system had real trouble playing smooth video on the Ch7HD loop with DD5.1 - I was getting video tearing and stuttering (Audio was fine). The nVidia filter was reporting 50Mbs for this channel during the demo loop where most of the others are in the 10-15 range (audio was around 384Kbs). I got great results for about 10mins by overclocking my modest nVidia 6200TC to the max before it gave up! A good compromise for now is to enable YUV with BOB (thanks for the post above) while I try to work out what Fanless PCI-E nVidia card will work better (any suggestions?). I get smooth playback without a big drop in quality (enabling decimation has a very noticable drop).
- Lost Sound on Ch7HD is now back to playing the tennis and while I've got vision I've now lost sound. I bet that they have switched to MPEG Audio on this channel but would need to rescan to find out. This is going to be very annoying and I don't know how the other software handles it. Ch7HD is the only Australian Channel to switch between MPEG Audio and DD on the same channel.
Thanks
Nathan

Sent a couple more logs myself.
1) NoAC3_1stChannel.txt: If you start viewing tv on an AC3 channel, there is no audio at all. Switch to another channel briefly and then back to the AC3 channel and audio is fine. This doesn't happen on HD channels (with AC3 audio), nor does it happen if you start tv on a channel other than an AC3 one.
2) TS_HD.txt: Another log of the timeshifting issue with HD channels. This one should show me doing a successful timeshift and resume on "Nine Digital" and then switching to "Nine Digital HD" and attempting the same thing. As before, video pauses ok (and there is plenty of disc activity) but there's no way of resuming. All I can do is stop.
Re: tv start and channel change speed. The first log might help you work out what’s going on here as it should show me switching between 2 channels. As discussed, it looks as though the process used to find the "right" audio stream has slowed things down quite a bit. In build 147-150 (I think), channel changing was super fast so I can only assume it’s related to this somehow. Anyway, I wonder if there is some potential to show the video asap and THEN choose the audio stream. In terms of "user experience" this would be a great improvement over 5+ seconds of a still video frame. Also, switching between channels within the same "group" appears to be slightly faster than jumping between channels within different groups.
Thanks.

MC12 Build 158
Refer sent log files.
Scanning
1. Looks fine. Found all channels including the mysterious 7 digital HD!
2. Scanning for me takes between 5-8 minutes which seems very long. What I'm finding though is that MC finds all my channels within the first couple of minutes (around the 20-30% scanning complete mark). Unfortunately I cannot stop the scan at this point because MC will not save the channels it has found up to this point. It's not a big deal but perhaps this could be a nice feature?? I'd then be able to quit out of the scan once I was happy all my channels were found. Otherwise, I guess the ideal would be to work out why scanning takes this amount of time in the first place.
Intermittent Audio problem
I'm losing AC3 audio with this build depending on which channel I start tv playback on and/or what order I switch to an AC3 channel.
Refer Log1.txt:
1. Start TV on channel "Nine digitial" - audio (PCM) ok
2. Switch to "Nine digital AC3" - audio still PCM
3. Switch to "nine digital HD" - NO AUDIO!
After this, I did another test this time starting on "Nine digital HD" and AC3 audio was fine. I didn't lose it until I switched to a SD channel and then back again.
Timeshifting on HD channels
Refer Log2.txt:
This is a little better. I can pause and resume now but during timeshifting, video playback is very choppy. Once I stop TS, playback is ok. Also, during one test in TS paused mode, I rewound the video to the start of the buffer and MC hung.
TV Startup and channel change speed
I couldn't test this properly due to the loss in audio streams but basically channel changing seems a bit quicker. It looks like MC is tuning to the selected channel a bit faster now. TV startup speed still seems the same.
Thanks.
-
Channel scan took a while but it found all my channels. A couple of issues though :-
1. Channel changing is EXTREMELY slow. 10-20 seconds and sometimes it will crash MC.
Full Confirmed also in Build 158 >:(
MC crasht every time I switch to Recording and would like the channel to change.
Where am I to send the log file?

I still get the "Unable to Play TV" error every tiem I exit the TV Options screen.
I have 4 tuners in the PC, maybe it's related to that?
Does anybody else get this?

I still get the "Unable to Play TV" error every tiem I exit the TV Options screen.
Are all the tuners the same? Perhaps try a different one if possible or move one of the existing ones temporarily to a spare PC to test.
I had this error for the longest time and then it just mysteriously started working all of a sudden and has been good ever since. I've never really been able to prove this to Yaobing. I wish I knew what it was .....
One thing worth trying (if you havn't already) is blowing away the "TV Settings" reg entry under HKCU\Software\JRiver\Media Center 12. Restart MC and go thru the TV setup again. You probably won't want to do this but have you tried reinstalling MC completely? I'm only suggesting this stuff because I tried it all and then somehow things changed so it might be worth the effort.

2. Scanning for me takes between 5-8 minutes which seems very long.
...
Unfortunately I cannot stop the scan at this point because MC will not save the channels it has found up to this point.
I designed it with full intention to allow user cancel in the middle of scanning and save whatever is already scanned. If it does not work that way, I need to fix it.
Here is what I expect it to work (and it works for my ATSC scanning):
During scanning, only "Stop Scan" button is available.
You can click "Stop Scan" anytime during scanning.
After clicking "Stop Scan" button, all buttons (except "Stop Scan") will be enabled.
Channels already found at that point should be in the list.
Clicking Cancel, you lose newly scanned result, and the previously scanned channels remain in the list on parent window.
Clicking OK, the newly scanned channels are saved.

As always, thanks for the log files.
"Nine digitial" -> "Nine digitia AC3"
I see where the problem is. These two are technically the same service. There is no change in "Service", thus no event was generated. I will fix that.
"Nine digitial"/"Nine digitial AC3" -> "Nine digitial HD"
I do not understand why an event was not generated when it should since this represents a change in "service". ::)
Did "Nine digitial HD" to "Nine digitial"/"Nine digitial AC3" transition work? From what you said above it appear to have worked (until you switch back to HD again).
-

Hi Yaobing. The Stop Scan button is available but 1) I sometimes cannot get it to stop even after several presses and waiting a long amount of time and 2) when it has worked, all my "old" channels have been present (rather than the newly found ones). I can verify all this with logs next time.
Did "Nine digitial HD" to "Nine digitial"/"Nine digitial AC3" transition work? From what you said above it appear to have worked (until you switch back to HD again).
I'll need to try it again tonight... From memory, Nine to Nine AC3 didn't give me AC3 (PCM only) and then Nine AC3 to Nine HD gave me no audio.
Any thoughts on the choppy playback problem during HD timeshifting?

Sent some 159 Logs:
1) Scan.log - First scan - missed the Ch10 Group, and some of the other assignments looked odd
2) Scan1.log - 2nd Scan - worked fine.
Pressed STOP lots of time from around 33% (the point all the channels are picked up) and it seems to keep going to around 50% before it acutally stops - not a big point as most would only ever tune once.
3) Tune.log - Went from 9HD to 9AC3 to 9. MC still seems to hand when moving between the SD and HD channels. After restarting MC (not rebooting) started a second log file and there was some big pauses, no responses then a BSOD with BAD_POOL_CALLER error.
4) Tune1.log - Rebooted this time (well did not have choice after the BSOD) and played the three HD DD channels one after another. MC seems to tune quickly (a couple of seconds) from one channel to another but then freezes for up to 20sec then it come good. (edit*** just had a delay of 10Minutes between tunes before it came good)
Thanks
Nathan

More logs sent too.
Thanks.

V161 - Mr Ugly has visited :'(
* TrytoScan.Log - going to the scanning page gets the odd bit of sound but you can not actually press tune as MC just (mostly) hangs
* Tune.log - similar prob to above (but using the old scaned channels) - bits of sound, no vision, hang
See you in v162! ;D

V162 - Getting better :) The info at the bottom of the screens are now correct:
- SCAN.LOG - took several goes (kept getting a Failed to Play error after the scan had finised but before the channel list could be updated
- Tune & SCAN.LOG - this scan worked (made sure to press STOP before the tune seems to be the trick on this build). Tunning was OK but there is still an issues with a big hang on the HD channels after the first aquition (can take minutes for it to come back)
Thanks

V162
Log sent.
Scanning ok for me but having many playback woes....
1. Starting playback on an HD channel (or AC3 channel) result in no audio.
2. Audio is generally stuttering across the board - never had any issues with this before. HD channels a very bad. I've tried messing with audio buffer sizes etc but it makes little difference.
Still slow to change between channels and during tv startup. 5-10 seconds.
Thanks.
-
V163
Still the same old issues for me. Yaobing, let me know if you need any more details from me to fix these.
Anyway, sent more logs just in case.
The stutter issues reported above have gone after a tv reset... strange!
Anyway,
1. Scanning still ok for me.
2. Starting playback on an HD channel (or AC3 channel) results in no audio. Switching to a non HD or AC3 channels from this also results in no audio. Starting playback on a non HD or AC3 channel is fine.
3. Timeshifting on HD channels pauses but won't resume. When TS is stopped and normal playback resumed, I get no audio.
4. Still slow to change between channels and during tv startup. 5-10 seconds. Again, this used to be very quick a few weeks back.
Also, not sure if this bug was introduced in 163 or not but while doing some general testing, I noticed that attempting to cancel a video bookmark on a video file which appears at the top of playing now fails. For example:-
1. Clear playing now
2. Add a single video file which contains a bookmark point (ie, the only item in the playing now list)
3. Hit "previous Track" to clear the bookmark
4. Nothing happens.
If the file IS NOT the first item in Playing now, the bookmark is cleared fine and playback starts from the beginning.
Thanks.

V170 (sorry I've been away for the last couple of weeks and have not been able to test till now :'( - but have sent a bunch of logs to make up for it ;D )
1) Scan.log - seems fine and it all works for me
2) tune_TS.log - tuning stations with TimeShift ON starting with an HD channel = it crashed MC
3) tune_no_sound - tunning stations with TimeShift OFF starting with an HD channel = no sound on any tuned channels
4) tune_some_sound - tunning stations with TimeShifdt OFF starting with a SD channel = get sound on SD and AC3 channels but not HD
5) tune.log - tunning stations with TimeShift OFF general tuning
Looks like the filter graph for HD Channels is causing a prob (note: I've rebuilt by HTPC on a new box so I may have stuffed up a filter but MC it seems to play other media OK, and I've no probs with HD Channels in the DVICO S'W)

V170
Log sent.
My findings for this build are ....
1. Starting TV on a HD channels (TS off) is fine now.
2. TS across the board though is broken. Cannot resume. Once playback is stopped and restarted, audio is fine but no images appear until I do a TV "Reset".
Also,
5. Changed: TV can now be started by clicking the "Watch" button without first selecting an channel. Its behavior is the same as clicking "0" and "Enter" on keypad.
This doesn't work. I get an error saying: "Cannot set channel. Code: 0x8....."
Can I just say though that this is a great idea! I'd love to see this functionality extended to theater view too so that hitting "TV" on tView's main menu launches tv automatically in full view (automatically selecting the last channel watched). Could this be made possible please? An option at least perhaps?
Thanks.
-
Thank you both for the logs.
This doesn't work. I get an error saying: "Cannot set channel. Code: 0x8....."
The goal of this function (at least currently) is to provide a way of starting for analog devices that have no tuner (such as webcam). Consequently the program will always go to the analog device if there is one. In your case, since you are using Dvico's Fusion device, there is an analog tuner but it does not work in Australia.
I will try tuning it more.

Theater View is another matter. I will consider it.
-
Theater View is another matter. I will consider it.
Thanks Yaobing. I'd appreciate it if you could. Using TV in Theater View is fantastic but having to choose a channel first and then switch to display view is sometimes tedious. It would be nice to just choose "TV" and away you go! As I said, an option for this functionality would be fine if neccessary.
Also, I know we're focused on getting the guts of all this working first but along the same lines, would it be possible to supress the "Starting TV..." popup box please? Again, in Theater View this is next to useless as the message cannot be read from across the room and just looks bad against the Theater View background. As an idea, perhaps the same message could be redirected to Display View; just like the "Opening..." text which appears when waiting for something to play.
There's no urgency to this. I just didn't want to loose the idea.
Thanks again.

More logs sent for V172 - I am still soundless on all channels!

173 was released this afternoon.

Sorry Typo ;D - should of read "More logs sent for V172 - I am still soundless on all channels!"

V173
1. All audio is fine for me. Using ffdshow but also good if I try Intervideo filters.
2. Not seeing any change with Timeshifting in this build. Result is the same as reported below for build 170. Ie, once video is paused, I cannot resume. It then breaks TV altogether - I only get sound, no video. I must "Reset TV settings" to get things back. Timeshifting used to be ok on non-HD channels for me but now it's not working at all.
3. The current playing TV channel in Theater View is not appearing with the usual Play overlay image. Switching to Playing Now shows this fine. It's only a problem from within the TV channel view itself. It makes it difficult to know what channel is actually playing without this and switching to Playing Now to find this out is a bit of a pain.
Thanks.

Sorry Typo ;D - should of read "More logs sent for V172 - I am still soundless on all channels!"
You mean "More logs sent for V173 ..."? ;D

Yup still got the same Typo (must of been tooooo early - V173). I also tried some other Audio Decoders with the same result (both AC3Filter & nVidia) though as I've rebuilt the HTPC it could be my new setup not your code!
-
... though as I've rebuilt the HTPC it could be my new setup not your code!
Maybe you can try rolling back a few builds and see if that would work.

Hi Yaobing. I'm just wondering if anything can be done about the TV startup and channel changing slowness? Is there anything I can provide you to help diagnose this (apart from logs).
I pulled out a stop watch today and it's taking around 12-15 seconds to start tv (from a selected channel) and between 5-10 seconds to change from one channel program "group" to another. Where it is fairly fast is when changing between channels of the same group - ABC HD to ABC2 for instance.
I have two other very bad live tv apps I'm comparing this with. One is the DVICO software which came with my card and another is a third party app but both do TV startup and channel changing within 2 seconds.
Thanks.
-
Hi Yaobing - could you look at the last logs I sent to see if there is anything obvious before I start making changes! - Thinking about the changes I've made, I seem to have lost TV sound when I put on on AC3Filter (instead of FFDSHOW which I was using before for MPEG/DTS support with the Nero Splitter). Everything else plays perfectly but if I try to play media after TV (soundless) it now crashes MC.
Thanks
Nathan

Nathan,
Your latest log show that the program failed to render the audio stream. Unfortunately there was no details in the log (I did not anticipate trouble in this). There is a chance that it was caused by my recent changes, but I can not imagine why that would be the case, since raym has no such problem. That is why I asked you to try rolling back a few builds to try to rule out such possibility. If rolling MC back to earlier version (to one before you lost all audio) still does not get audio on at least some channels, then you may need to reinstall your decoders. You may even need to reinstall DirectX 9.0c.
For some reason, DirectShow builds a graph with audio always being MPEG-2, even if an HD channel was requested. Having to change the format to the correct one after the graph has been built was causing problems with HD audio and time-shifting. That was why in recent builds I try to set the audio format before the audio stream is rendered, to avoid having to change the format later. If for any reason that would prevent rendering audio stream, I will have to think of another strategy.

It then breaks TV altogether - I only get sound, no video. I must "Reset TV settings" to get things back. Timeshifting used to be ok on non-HD channels for me but now it's not working at all.
I see in your earlier log file that the program failed to load the time-shifting file. Are you able to record (right-click, choose "TV Recording" -> "Start Recording...")?
What recording folder did you set? Make sure it is on a local hard drive and have plenty of disk space.
Do you see the files "MJTSFile.jts" and "MJTSFile.jta" growing in the folder after you start time-shifting?
The channel info should be displayed on video screen for three seconds after the channels is tuned.

Yeah, good point. Let me look at this and I'll report back.

No this isn't what I'm talking about....
In theater view, when ANYTHING is playing, the little green play tri-angle (overlay image) is used to indicate that something is playing. Same should go for tv channels and IT DOES for the playing now view. This just isn't working in the tv (television) view. Therefore, in THEATER VIEW:-
1. select TV from the root menu
2. select a channel and press play
3. in Theater View (NOT DISPLAY VIEW) the green play overlay image should appear over the playing tv channel. IT DOES NOT.
4. jump to Playing Now, it DOES appear. It should appear in both views just like anything else played in Theater View.
Make sense?

Yep, I see these files growing in my video folder (which is c:\video) when I pause TV. The problem is still when I try to resume. Nothing happens. These files continue to grow in size. The only thing I can do is STOP the timesifting.
Interestingly though, if I set the option to start tv with TS enabled, I get an error message saying something like "Unable to locate/load timeshifting files". MC does nothing after this, ie, tv does NOT start. Perhaps this is related to the problem I'm seeing. I've emailed you the log of this.
Thanks.

It is the same error as the one you had by clicking Pause. The error code, surprisingly, is E_OUTOFMEMORY. Out of memory! How can that be!
Very moderate memory allocations are involved. Have you noticed any other memory related issues on your computer?
-
Your latest log show that the program failed to render the audio stream.
Thanks will give it a shot when I'm back in town (travelling again) though I'd imagine that if the decoders or DirectX was stuffed I would also have problems with playing DVD's, MPEGs, Audio etc - but all work fine....will let you know!
-
Have you noticed any other memory related issues on your computer?
Nope. None at all....
I'm guessing (based on a quick google search) that this exception (E_OUTOFMEMORY) may relate to problems while building/generating the graphs. It could even be a catch-all for a variety of issues???
Example: http://nate.deepcreek.org.au/svn/DigitalWatch/tags/2.0.0.7/src/BDADVBTSourceTuner.cpp
Don't know if this helps or not though I'm sorry...
-
Hi Yaobing - got home and loaded V162 and sound worked fine :D then downloaded the latest Version and was Soundless again :-[!

No, it is not a catch-all, at least for MC. E_OUTOFMEMORY error occurs when memory allocation fails.
Please try the latest build. After initial time-shifting attempt, try find "Restart player..." in right-click menu. This command was added not to solve the problem you are seeing, but it might help.

raym and jmone,
You two have the same DVICO device, right? It puzzles me why they behave so differently. What are the differences? I see in your log files that even the DirectShow graph come out different (one of you has pins 2 and 3 for video and audio, while the other has pins 3 and 4 for video and audio). Not that it matters, but I would expect them to be the same considering they are the same device.
Have you both installed the latest drivers from the manufacturer's web site?
In your latest logs, I see Nathan did not choose audio and video decoder. DirectShow automatically picked 'NVIDIA Video Decoder' for video, and DirectShow could not find a suitable audio decoder to put in the graph. On the other hand raym picked 'CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD7)' and 'ffdshow Audio Decoder', and DirectShow substituted the audio decoder with 'InterVideo Audio Decoder' (which is fine).

Hi Yaobing. I've tried the latest build (175) and still having the same TS issues. I tried "Restart player..." and it didn't have any effect.
I am using the absolute latest drivers (according to the DVICO website) for my card. For all intents and purposes, the card is working fine (including timeshifting) with my other (terrible) TV software.

DVICO brought out an update towards the end of last year which I am using (V3.50.02). I can try selecting different combo's for the filters again if you think that would help? Let me know if you want me to run any logs etc.
thanks
Nathan
PS got your e-mail and have sent new logs but still no sound. FYI the NVIDIA Audio decoder is being activated but it reports there is no info being sent.

In build 179 I rolled back some of the recent changes. I hope this will get Nathan's sound back while not losing some of the gains we made. Please test it for both normal tuning and time-shifting.
-
V179 - Thanks Yaobing - Life is Good Again - I've got Sound ;D! I'll send the usual logs. MPEG sound was fine with the default filters but DD was just the popping noise till I changed the filter to nVidia - now I'm getting MPEG, DD2.0, and DD5.1 just fine (note it seems to take a long time (eg 20sec) to get the HD channels tuned sometimes).
Will now test Timeshifting & Recording
-
Timeshift results (will send logs) - the Timeshift files are created and grow but no Video or Sound is rendered in MC. Files are deleted when TS is stoped and the DTV is returned but all the video settings for Hue, Colour and been reset to low values (you need to go into the Advance Properties and press the Default button to fix).
Record - Same as a month ago where if TS is not running it will first change to an Blue Screen from a DVB Channel, the if you select record a second time it will record this blue screen to an AVI file. No luck at all in first turning on TS then recoding (probably the above).

To get DD Sound (2.0 or 5.1) you MUST first tune to a SD/MPEG channel. If you tune straight to a DD channel you get no sound! Will send updated logs

V179
Hmmm.... A slight step backwards in this build for me.
1. I'm seeing the complete opposite to jmone in terms of HD audio. Ie,
To get DD Sound (2.0 or 5.1) you MUST first tune to a SD/MPEG channel.
I must first tune to a HD channel (with AC3 sound) to get any sound at all on a SD channel. Log file sent. HD audio is always fine for me.
EDIT1: Ok, this seems to be codec related. I switched to the Cyberlink audio decoder on the weekend (to try to resolve another unrelated issue). Switching back to ffdshow, I don't get any audio issues. The thing is, prior to upgrading to 179, the Cyberlink decoder was fine with build 175.
2. TS is the same as it's been lately and consistent with jmone's comments. Ie,
Timeshift files are created and grow but no Video or Sound is rendered in MC. Files are deleted when TS is stoped and the DTV is returned but all the video settings for Hue, Colour and been reset to low values (you need to go into the Advance Properties and press the Default button to fix).
Thanks.
EDIT 2: I'm occasionally getting digital noise when starting tv on hd channels. Stopping and re-starting fixes it and it's very inconsistent. I can't reproduce it at will. I'll leave logging on so that next time it happens, I should be able to send thru a log. I've experienced this for a while now and is not unique to build 179.
-
Hi Yaobing - got your e-mail but as I'm rebuilding my HTPC (again :-\) it may be a day before I can get the logs to you.
Thanks
Nathan

v181 Results looks Good!
1) Scan - ;D Works great
2) Tune - ;D Works great with sound regardless of if you start with either an MPEG, or DD or HD channel
3) Recording - :( Does not work, same as before you select Record once and get a blank screen, selecting it again starts recording the blank screen as an AVI. Also tried recording after enabling TS but this now does not work
4) TimeShift - :) Seems to work! I've not had a good play but PAUSE/PLAY/STOP works - when I pressed FWD/BACK I found I was switching channels and this seems to cause MC to hang.
-
V181
Looking good here too!
1. Tuning - Most problems sorted now. Occasionally getting digital noise through spdif out when starting TV on a HD channel. Finally got a log of this so I've sent it through. When I stop and restart, the problem goes away. It's very difficult to reproduce but happens to me at least once a day. It's not filter related because I've tried several.
2. Recording - This is fine for me. No probs at all. I hit record, OSD says it's recording. A DVR-MS file is produced which is playable once I stop recording. Hitting record during Time-shifting cancels Time-shifting though. Is this expected behaviour?
3. Time-Shifting - Working now on SD and HD channels. A persistent problem is still occuring though.. Once I hit pause to initiate time-shifting, all my video display controls (the brightness and contrast sliders etc) get set to the defaults. Worse than this though is when I stop TV (and therefore time-shifting also), all these display controls get set to the extreme minimum. As a result, the next time I attempt to play a channel, nothing is visible anymore. I must re-adjust all the sliders to "normal" levels manually. I've submitted a log of this also.
Thanks.

V182:
1) Scan - Have sent two logs (Scan1 with "Slow Checked"). Scanned serveral times but could not pick up the Channel 9 group for some reason any time
2) Tune - Have sent two logs (Tune1 is from the TheaterView IF). Was getting some drop outs / jerkiness / tearing etc when in Theater View. Also while the release notes say YUV is disabled, the option is still there and I in Tune.Log you will see I selected both it and BOB a couple of times and it did seem to make a difference.
3) Recording - No files are created for me but it now opens up an "Active Movie Window" with sound if you try to record a NON HD channel and without sound on an HD channel
4) Timeshift - Seems to work just fine (note: get the same results as in #3 if I try to then start recording when in timeshift)
Thanks
Nathan

4) Timeshift - Seems to work just fine (note: get the same results as in #3 if I try to then start recording when in timeshift)
Hey Nathan, do you see the video display settings issue I described yesterday though?
Yaobing, did you see the cause for this in my log from yesterday?
Thanks.
-
Yup, Similar - just tested & have sent a log to Yaobing) - when I end Timeshift the Contrast and Saturation is reset to 0 making it look like a dim B&W picture. I have to hit "Default" to bring it back to normal "middle postion" which I do not normally change.
-
Thanks guys.
I have not been able to do much on DVB-T TV today.
YUV mixing mode is not used for video playback, but is still available for TV as it is configurable (whereas is was not configurable in video and DVD playback).
-
Tried tuning again and still no CH9 group. I was also getting more stuttering of Video/Audio this time from StdView
Thanks
Nathan
-
There has not been any changes in scanning for several weeks. I wonder if local signal condition played a role.
I have not finish reading the logs, but it sounds like the there is a bug in ProcAmp control area.
-
In the next build there will be the following fixes:
Fixed: Digital TV's Color Controls (ProcAmp settings) were messed up in recent builds.
Fixed: "Active Movie Window" was opened when trying to recover from digital TV recording graph failure.
I am still trying to figure out why Nathan could not record.
-
I'm not sure either as I used to be able to record if TS was already on otherwise it would try to grab a blank analog feed (could it be the S-Video input that is mapped as a Ch?)
-
it would try to grab a blank analog feed (could it be the S-Video input that is mapped as a Ch?)
That was because the "ungraceful" handling of recording graph failure. The entire digital TV graph was dismantled, and somehow TV switched to analog TV.
Hopefully this will not happen again as I added code to restore digital TV viewing in case recording failed. Still I need to get the recording graph built successfully.
-
V183 (Quick Test)
1) Scan - :( Still can not pick up Ch9 Group - rest works fine
2) Tune - :) Working OK
3) Recording - :( Get an error saying it could not do it but the "Active Movie Window" no longre appears and the channel is restored correctly
4) Timeshift - :) Seems to work just fine (note: get the same results as in #3 if I try to then start recording when in timeshift)
Thanks
Nathan

Yes, it is expected. Right now we do not have ability to record off time-shifting.
3) Recording - :( Get an error saying it could not do it but the "Active Movie Window" no longre appears and the channel is restored correctly
There will be some change in recording code in the next build. However, the error you got is inexplicable. It seems that something is seriously wrong with your DirectX system. We will look into that after you test the next build.

Oops. I was a step behind again. The change did not get into 184.
I will email you the updated TV component.

OK, the change did get included in 185.

-
v185 - Best Yet (usual logs being sent)
1) Scan - ;D Works great
2) Tune - ;D Works great
3) Recording - :) I can record perfectly with the SD/MPEG channels! but there seems to be probs building the graph for any of the DD Channels as I get no sound in the recording or in MC and upon stoping the recording I've then got problems with stuttering until I tune to a SD/MPEG channel which seems to settle it back down (or a reboot)
4) TimeShift - :) Like above, it seems to work fine with SD/MPEG and SD/DD channels but if I try to TS a HD channel - the TS files are created but MC is blank & no sound - and it then causes issues with stuttering & sound with subsequent tunning to SD channels.
Thanks again - great progress!
Nathan

V185
Generally looking pretty good now. Great work Yaobing!
Still a couple of problems though:-
1. I'm still getting digital noise (spdif out) when starting tv on HD channels. It is happening about 1 in every 5 attempts. I provided a log of this a few days ago. Was anything evident there? Sometimes I can stop and restart and it will be fine again. The last couple of times though, when I hit stop, MC crashed. I'll submit a log of this. This is probably the most serious issue for me at the moment.
2. Fixed: Digital TV's Color Controls (ProcAmp settings) were messed up in recent builds.
This is much better now but the brightness control still appears to have a mind of it's own. I don't know what's causing it, (timeshifting, repeated start-stop of tv ?) but each time I re-check my settings (Brightness down slightly and Saturation up) Brightness appear to slowly creep back up to the default (middle) setting.
EDIT 1
3. Just found another problem. I'm not getting any audio on 7HD. Other HD channels are fine. This was not occuring in build 181. Sending a log file of this also. EDIT 2 Ok. It looks like this might be related to that old issue where Channel 7 over here occasionally switch 7HD with 7SD. I just tried it again this morning and the audio is now fine.
Thanks

I have not found any cause for audio problem (static noise for HD channels) in the log file except that several times the system did not list any available components (audio, video and data streams) after it tuned to a HD channel. I wonder if this is just related to local signal fluctuation.
Did you get the same problem using different audio decoder filters?
At the end of the log file, when the program crashed, TV has already been successfully unloaded. Not sure what caused it.
I do see evidence of color controls drifting away from your set values. I will hunt it down and fix it.
-
Did you get the same problem using different audio decoder filters?
Yeah. Changing audio decoders was the first thing I tried. No change. I don't know what else to say about this one.. I'll install the latest build and I guess I'll just keep an eye on it.

Oh that's good. I look forward to seeing this fixed. :)
-
Oh that's good. I look forward to seeing this fixed. :)
Fixed.
By the way, from your log file I see you trying to adjust the controls (a few times) when digital TV was not being played. This actually would adjust the values for analog TV tuner, which has a different mechanism. To make sure your adjustment takes effect for digital TV, you need to be viewing digital TV when you make the adjustment.

v187 - (usual logs sent)
1) Scan - Works fine (note: this one took a very long time - seemed to pause a 20%)
2) Tune - Works great on most channels but the CH9 groups now suffers from stuttering (MPEG / SD / HD)
3) Recording - Same as v185 - only get sound recorded on the MPEG channels.
thanks

v187
1. I know this is not stricktly related to DVB-T TV but the selectable YUV Mixing Mode in this build is fantastic! Thanks.
2. I have not found any cause for audio problem (static noise for HD channels)
Hmmm... what to do? It doesn't take long for the issue to raise it's ugly head and then crash MC. As I said in my last post, I have tried alternate audio codecs. Is there any other relevant info I can provide you to help assist in tracking down the cause? You stated that my last log showed the system not listing "any available components". Is this a potential cause? If it were then perhaps MC could either abort the attempt made to tune (forcing the user to retry it) or maybe MC could automatically re-try the tune in this case? Anything would be better than this loud, potentially harmful-to-my-speakers static... I don't know... It's just a suggestion. I must admit, I've tried everything with this one and I'm kinda running out of ideas. It's a shame because playback now is otherwise flawless.
3. There's a bug with modifying channel names. After doing so, I found that I was no longer getting any audio on the channels I renamed. I found the cause to be the way MC is saving the channel info in the registry. For example, I modified the name of "SBS HD 12802-784-103" to simply "SBS HD" via the Digital Channels Modify dialog box. What this did in the registry though was change this channel's info from "DTV 784 (12802-784)536625, 7, 12802, 103, 4, 0" to "DTV 784 (12802-784)536625, 7, 0, 0, 4, 1". This was obviously the cause for my lost audio. I rectified the issue by copying the missing data back. I had to do this for each channel I renamed.
Thanks.

It should have been tuned to the transport stream. The first time the tune event comes, things seem to be OK. I just select the audio stream and resubmit the tune request. When the tune event comes again, there are no streams to select. Since I have already selected a stream the first time, I just let the program run. Maybe I can try submitting tune request again.

This is definitely a bug. I will fix it soon.

v187 - (usual logs sent)
3) Recording - Same as v185 - only get sound recorded on the MPEG channels.
So the file recorded to disk is silent. Do you hear sound during recording?
Your log file does not show anything suspicious. The DirectShow graph was built correctly. All filter pins are connected as they should. If you can hear sound during recording, then there should definitely be audio going down stream. If the recorded file does not have sound, send me a log file of playing the recorded file. This may be playback issue.

Nope it is soundless both during recording and during the file playback!

v188 - (usual logs sent)
1) Scan - Works fine & was quick
2) Tune - I still get stuttering (any ideas - have a stuffed a setting?)
3) Recording & Playing - Same - only get sound recorded (and played back from recordings) on the MPEG channels.

V188
Everything ok for me except this build has introduced a strange problem when timeshifting.
1. Start TV (TS off by default)
2. Hit pause to initiate TS.
3. Video pauses ok but is resized to occupy the top left hand corner of the screen only.
4. Resume video and playback is fine but video still resized.
5. Stop and restart TV (TS off) and full screen video is restored.
Log file sent.

Hi Yaobing. Has this been adressed in build 190? I can't really tell from the DVB-T specific references in the build notes.
Thanks.

No, it has not. I did try to address the HD audio static noise issue. Is there any difference?

I'm away for a few days so will test when I'm back

I see this problem. It is more wide spread than just in DVB-T (happens in analog TV too). I have not figured out what is causing it, but I know it was not introduced in V188, as 187 also had the same problem. Unfortunately I do not have any versions earlier than that to help me track it down. It makes it harder, but eventually I will.

V192 Testing - little improvement :( (usual logs sent)
1) Scan - Failed to pick up the Channel 9 group again (only had time to test once). Also seemed to be frozen at 2% for a very long time before progresing
2) Tune - Still getting drop outs / jerkiness / etc (especially with the SBS and ABC groups).
3) Recording - No sound still on all DD channels (HD and SD)
4) Timeshift - did not have time to test (as MC ended up haning after the above - sent "weird.log" on this.
Thanks

I am having a hard time finding the bug.
Which window were you doing the renaming in? The "TV Channels" property page (the window you get right after you click "Options" button in TV view), or "Scan Channels" window (the window you get after you click "Digital Chan" button on the "TV Channels" property page)?
-
Hi Yaobing - let me know if there is any specific testing, logging etc you would like me to do as we really need to close the basic DVB-T stuff out once and for all!
-

Yes, that's right.
-
No, it has not. I did try to address the HD audio static noise issue. Is there any difference?
Yaobing, I would say this issue is worse now. It's happing more often than I've ever experienced before. ONLY when starting tv. I never notice it switching channels.
Thanks.
2) Tune - Still getting drop outs / jerkiness / etc (especially with the SBS and ABC groups).
3) Recording - No sound still on all DD channels (HD and SD)
Nathan, I wonder why you're still having these problems and I'm not? Perhaps it's the filter's you are using? I trust you've tried others?
-
We spent some time playing with different filters in the early days of testing and can go back there if needed...but as Yaobing is the man on this, I've no doubt has specific things he will want me to test or try before I make random changes on my own.
To me its a bit like your static problem which has not plagued me since DD started working months ago - it all looks like symptoms of finalising the DVB-T support.
-
Yes, that's right.
Which one? "TV Channels" or "Scan Channels", or both?
You can change station names in two places.

I am truely out of ideas, with the issues either of you are having. ::)

but we're sooooooo close!! :'(
Yes, I know.
For now I can not think of anything that I can do in terms of coding. Maybe you guys can fool around with the decoder selection and maybe configuration.
The issues you guys have are different but also related (in that both involve HD audio).
-
Yaobing. I will try some more things and report back. In the meantime, I've sent you some more logs of the Digital Noise issue. I think I may have stumbled across something??? You be the judge as to whether or not it is a relevent find :)
Thanks Yaobing for all your efforts.
-
Likewise I'll have a play and see what happens with different settings.
-
Now I feel ill - started mix and matching filters and now I'm blue screening and having trouble booting!
There is also a new version of the DVICO S'W & Drivers - Date:2007-02-28 Ver:3.60.01 - (and a lengthly uninstall / install process) so I'll also try that first!
-
OK - the reinstall of the DVICO S'W / drivers using the new version had two good effects:
1) my BSOD's / No Boot stoped (very relevied)
2) It is MUCH MUCH quicker in scanning, channel changing etc ;D raym you gonna love upgrading to this version!
Usual Logs Sent:
1) Scan - ;D Very Quick & found all the stations
2) Tune - ;D Very Quick for both first tunem tune between and within groups. I am still getting stuttering on selected channels but I am also getting it with the DVICO S'W so it is not an issue with MC it must be my setup, arial etc (sorry should of checked in the other prog earlier :-[!)
3) Timeshift - :) works on SD channels but while the files are created it is just a black screen then hangs on HD channels :(
4) Recording - :) works on SD channels but while the ms-dvr file is created it is just soundless :( Recording1.log is also a test with every available DVICO sound filter - but none recorded sound.
I did however get some screenshots that may help of what filters are being loaded (pre and post selecting recording) when I had FFDSHOW being used of the filter for both Audio and Video:
This is what was being used in the graph when playing an HD Channel just fine (not recording)
This is the same info just after selecting "Start Recording"
I don't like the look of these "Infinite Pin Tree Filters"!
Thanks
Nathan
-
raym - during my mix and match settings I saw two of the issues you were reporting (but sorry can't quite replicate them):
1) Digital Noise - this happened to me when I had FFDSHOW for the Audio Decoder, a brief burst of digital noise (on a DD channel I think) then it was fine after that - I do not get this with nVidia decoders
2) Top Left Partial Full Screen - I think I was using the DVICO HDTV (DxVA) BDA Video Codec at the time and was testing in STDView. When I double clicked on the TV image it did not scale to fill the screen just "moved" it to the top left of the screen and the rest went black. Again not probs normally as I don't use this filter combo.
Thanks
Nathan

Thanks Nathan. How do you obtain those filter graph listings?
I'm glad(?) you heard the digital noise. I have tried many different audio decoders and the problem eventually happens with all of them. I suspect that if you stick with the nVidia ones, you'll eventually experience it with them also. You're right in saying you can't replicate it. I can go a few days without hearing the noise sometimes. Other times it will happen several times a day. You realise also that it only happens for me when STARTING tv on a HD channel?
Yaobing has also confirmed the TS, image resize issue.
As far as updated DVICO drivers go, I also have the latest but did not experience any significant changes. What I did resort to this afternoon was swapping out my DVICO card with another no-name BDA complient card. WOW! I now see very quick startup times (<5 seconds) and channel changes between channel groups is 2 seconds or less!!! This other card has NO ANALOG inputs. I wonder if this reduces the processing overheads within MC somehow?
But alas, the digital noise on HD channels still happens from time-to-time. I've found something which may be significant though in a recent log of this. I have just sent this to Yaobing.
Cheers,
Ralf.
-
If you are using FFDSHOW you can right click on the icon in the tray and it shows what filters are being used. The new Dvico drivers are only a couple of weeks old and I noticed a big increase in spead. At the moment I'm testing what is causing my stuttering - it looks like either dodgy reception OR the internal card is getting heat problems (it is right next to my 7600GS Passive Cooled card and they both get very hot).
-
Testing of Stuttering:
1) If I leave MC on a stuttering channel it eventually freezes MC
2) If I leave MC on a non-stuttering channel it is fine
3) I have removed a coax line filter (and cable) from the inwards path to the card (from one of those HTPC powerboards that filter / surge protect everything) and number of channels that were stuttering has been reduced.
I'm guessing at this stage the issue is the quality / signal strenth of some of the channels (but it is guessing!) and not heat related.
More testing later

I don't like the look of these "Infinite Pin Tree Filters"!
The Tee filters should be OK. They are needed so I can split audio and video streams and send them to a file while also rendering them normally.
-
Sorry. "TV Channels" Tab. Then "Digital Chan" Button. Then "Modify".
Ah, I forgot there is also a "Modify Channel" dialog.
This dialog needs to be updated to include audio stream ID and Original Network ID.
Counting this, there should be three ways (not two ways) to change a station's name:
1. On "TV Channels" property page -
Click the station name twice to enter into edit mode. You can also right-click and choose "Edit Station Name".
2. On "Scan Channels" dialog window -
Click the station name twice to enter into edit mode. You can also right-click and choose "Edit Station Name".
3. Click "Modify" button on "Scan Channels" window, and edit. This one needs fixing.
-
Yaobing - as I beleive the saying goes for Yanks - "You are the Man!". That last seat of "tweaking" as recoding works on all channels ;D (have sent a log)! TS also looks good but I manged to crash it somehow (MC just disapeard at one point). I'll test properly over the WE and send the logs.
Thanks again - what did you change?
Nathan

Nathan
I had to do a re-submission of tune request after starting recording to make sure correct audio stream is selected. It appears that things drift a bit when you stop and change the graph and then start it. It is so much simpler with ATSC.
-
....and I would imagine so much harder when you can not test it directly yourself!

TS is still doing that crazy video resizing on me. Is this not the case for you anymore?
I take it that this hasn't been fixed yet?
Thanks

v194 Results looks Good! (tested from STDView usual logs sent)
0) Instability / Freezing / Missing CH etc - This was MY problem - we've had some big storms and to cut a long story short (after days of investigation, testing lines etc) I had to replace my antenna and it has resolved all sorts of DVB-T problems! It seems that the BDA drivers don't like weak and fluctuating signal strength - this was causing MC to hang with in TV mode, missing channels, freezing etc (anyone want a beaten up old aerial?)
1) Scan - ;D Works Great , I’m even back to picking up channels from 100KM away (see above).
2) Tune - ;D Works Great with either an MPEG, or DD or HD channel
3) Recording - :) Works Well, however I get audio stuttering on the AC3 channels (not 5.1) when tuning to them straight after finishing recoding on another channel (see the log when I tune to CH9AC3 after the recording). Note: Tuning to a Non-AC3 channels fixes the problem. Playing the recoded files are OK (even the audio stuttering is greatly reduced but still apparent in the recordings). This is not a big one for me as I will use only SD/MPEG and HD/DD5.1 channels not the SD/AC3 channels.
4) TimeShift - :-\ Works OK, however I initially get a BLACK Screen on the HD channels when starting TS (eg No Screen Shot), then pressing play started the video playback without sound, then seeking back / forward would then fix it all with sound and vision just fine. I also get the same audio stuttering problem as in #3 when tunning to a AC3 channel after finishing TS on another channel.
I’ll do some testing from the TheaterView I/F and post the results, but it is looking better all the time!
Thanks
Nathan

v194 tested from TheaterView using a remote only (usual logs sent)
1) Tune - :-\ I've got some issues tuning from one station to another (captured in the logs). If I'm vewing one station, then press the "Enter" button to go back the the menu with the TV Channel playing in the bottom left, navigate to a new station and press "PLAY", you get a black full screen and no sound. Works fine if you "STOP" the channel first. Also had MC drop out all together doing this at one point (but did not have the logging running at the time!)
2) Recording - ? No idea how to start recording with a remote (the record button does nothing!)
3) TimeShift - :-\ Works OK, but same issues with STDView (+ I now see that in full screen the problem as reported by raym with the video taking up the top left three quarters of the screen only. Even after stoping TS the condition remains until you stop and restart the TV model.
Thanks
Nathan

Obviously Yaobing's the man here but I have a few thoughts... Are you starting tv with TS on or off? Assuming it is off to begin with, hitting PLAY while another station is already playing effectively tunes to the new channel but in TS mode. Therefore the video should be paused. I don't know why you're seeing a black screen.
2) Recording - ? No idea how to start recording with a remote (the record button does nothing!)
Ditto! Been wondering this myself. A hot key sequence would be great here.
Cheers,
Ralf.

Yes, I've TS off to start with - so it does make sense that I get a black screen / no sound when as it is the same bug I get with starting TS on an HD channel.

By 'press "PLAY"', I suppose you meant selecting Play from the menu, not pressing the Play button on the remote. Play button on the remote is Play/Pause. You might end up pausing the currently playing channel, as raym indicated.
2) Recording - ? No idea how to start recording with a remote (the record button does nothing!)
Select "Controls" from Theater View menus. "TV Recording" is at the bottom.

Thanks Yaobing
1) I did mean pressing the "Play" Button
2) will search out the recording option....
Do you want TV Feature requests to be posted in this thread (or should we start a new one and leave this for bugs etc?)

It does not matter. Either way is fine.

TheaterView and TV impressions : After playing around with TV in Theaterview, I've posted some suggestions regarding the IF and RC at the TheaterView thread http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=39371.msg269434#msg269434 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=39371.msg269434#msg269434)
The following issues are very noticeable in TheaterView:
1) Initial Black Screen / No Sound when starting Timeshifting on an HD Channel
2) The 3/4 Screen Display when Timeshifting
TimeShifting & Recording: At the moment MC using two files formats, an in-house one for TS and ms-dvr for recording which apparently prevents simultaneous TS & Recording. At some stage :'( like most other HTPC S'W) the consolidation to one file format (ms-dvr or mpg) to allow simultaneous TimeShifting & Recording may be the way to go.
Thanks

Hi Yaobing. A couple of questions for ya:-
1. Re build 195: Fixed: Digital TV aspect ratio control did not work properly.
-- this isn't a fix for the TS video resizing bug is it?
2. Did you get my email re the digital noise log file comparisons I did? Was I onto something or was it just wishful thinking?
3. I'm just putting this out there coz I'm curious... How would MC go with 2 DVB-T tuner devices? Could I potentially watch one program while recording another and do all those other things dual tuners should allow? How would this work in Theater View? For example, if I'm watching a program using one device, how would I "tell" MC I want to record another channel with the second device? Maybe I can assign each tuner to a different zone??
As I said, just curious... I realise this functionality is probably not available. I may try it soon just as an experiement but wondered if you had any experience with this already with ATSC devices.
Thanks.
-
I'm away for work at the moment so will do more testing when back home!

1. Re build 195: -- this isn't a fix for the TS video resizing bug is it?
No, it is not. That one will be fixed in the next build, definitely. Also the aspect ratio fix will truly appear in the next build ;)
2. Did you get my email re the digital noise log file comparisons I did? Was I onto something or was it just wishful thinking?
I got the mail, but have not had chance to read it yet. I was bogged down by the TS masking window bug. Now that is finally fixed, I can get onto other stuff.

Sorry, we still can only handle one device at a time. It has been my goal to make it handle multiple devices simultaneously, but the change is going to be extensive. This includes single device with multiple tuners. Right now we just treat them as separate devices and you have to choose one or the other, not both.
-
I got the mail, but have not had chance to read it yet.
I take this back. I actually did read your log files ;D
The difference that you noticed in the two log files was of some significance in that it showed that some of my earlier code (that had been added in an attempt to fix this problem) did kick in. And I was hoping additional changes that fixed Nathan's recording problem might also have some impact on your issue. Apparently it is still not fixed. I will have to think of something new. :(

Ok, well here's hoping.... I'd like to point out that I have gone as far as changing my DVB-T tuner device in an attempt to resolve this. I've changed from a DVICO Fusion card to an ASUS P series but the problem still occurs!! Also, I think I may have said that the issue ONLY occurs at TV startup. This is not neccessarily true. I've also now experienced it when switching between HD channels and even during Timeshifting.
Thanks.

Build 196
I've given this build and DVB-T a real workout today and I'm very pleased to say that all-in-all, I think we have the best build yet!! Timeshifting is working perfectly now! No issues at all. Recording is working fine here. Initially when I attempted to play back the recorded file I was getting a black screen and no audio. I think Nathan has had problems with this?? Anyway, this turned out to be a mistake on my part - I had not chosen my usual Cyberlink filter for dvr-ms files (it was set to "let directshow decide". After changing this setting playback is now perfect. Finally, modifying channel names seems great now.
Thanks
-
Ok, one small problem.... there had to be one!!!
Actually, I started noticing this a build or two ago. I'm occasionally seeing the dreaded "Failed to play TV (Unknown Error)" message box when attempting to play TV. The tuner device is fine (can play tv ok with other software). If I restart MC, the problem goes away. It seems to occur after a period of inactivity.
I have sent a log.
Thankyou.
-
I've not come across this error at all (but i've been away all week and will not get a change till the W'End to test the latest builds) - could it be a hibernation / power setting problem?
-
The wierd thing is, sometimes when I see this error, MC carries on tuning the channel regardless. So there is no actual problem! Seems strange.
I don't use Hibernation. I do use Standby though I've seen the message box appear even when power saving has not kicked in. The thing is I've not changed my procedures here. The only variable has been MC... I'll keep an eye on it...
-
Yaobing may recall this better than me, but it sounds like the initial problem we had last year getting DVB to work (Long since fixed). It was related to MC trying and failing to tune to an analgue channels that don't exist physically on the card but were catered for in the drivers.

I always get this error when I exit the TV Settings pages and sometime at other times, dom't know what it means as the tuner stil works OK.
I deleted all the TV registry entries and reconfigured but I still get it.
I just decided to put up with it until TV was closer to working in the other areas that were more important and that you guys all seem to have covered so well already.

Oh yeah.. this kinda rings a bell.... Since I changed tuners last week, maybe this one handles the analog device slightly differently?
Yaobing, any clues in the log I provided?
Thanks.
-
The log file you sent does not tell much., All I see is you try to tune to a channel, MC tries to build a DS graph. Graph building finishes (I suppose not completing the graph). No error message. I will see if I can improve logging a bit.
You device has an analog tuner too. But now we do not go to analog tuner until you actually try to tune to an analog channel (or when you go to TV Options - Richard, does your device have a working analog tuner?). So this case seems only related to your digital device.
-
Ok. I;m keeping a close eye on it and will report back anything else I find. It's been fine for today so fingers crossed!
Thanks.

V198 testing results (logs sent) - overall now looking very good ;D with a few bugs!
1) Dropping Sound: When stoping a recoding from a HD channel the sound gets dropped (recording1.log), same also when stoping a TS from HD channel (followed by MC crashing - see TS logs)
2) 3/4 Display problem on TS is fixed.
3) Commencing TS on an HD channel still displays only a black screen & no sound (see TS logs) - pressing FFW or RWD brings the Video Back, then pressing play / pause works fine after that.
4) Playing a TV channels no longer goes straight into Display View
5) Did not see any "Failed to Play TV" errors.
6) You can still not edit the TV Names from the "TV Config" diag box (fine from "Scan Channels")
7) The TV recordings are named as "STATION M_DD_YY HH_MM_SS" but would be good if MC could put the Month / Day in the correct DATE format like in the rest of MC (eg for me DD_MM_YY)
Also some further observations in regards to the MC IR IF stuff for TV Control.
1) Record Button - FYI recording.log should have the pressing the "recoding" button logged
2) Recording Indicator - The bottom diag box stays visible for the entire recording, not just at activation and stoping like with Timeshifting where it is hidden after a few seconds
Thanks.

Build 198
I don't want to jinx myself but this build has been going fantastic for me. No issues to report what-so-ever! I've used it for 3 days straight now and I've not had a single instance of the "Failed to play TV" message, nor have I heard any digial HD noise. Obviously now that I've said all this something will happen but I'm hopeful ;D
I did notice this however (as did Nathan) and I've reported it in the build thread:-
4) Playing a TV channels no longer goes straight into Display View
My guess is this has nothing to do with DVB-T but the recent Theater View change in this area.
The other thing I've raised in the build thread (again, not related to DVB-T directly) has to do with the missing PLAY overlay marker in Theater View for the currently playing channel: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=39629.msg270260#msg270260 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=39629.msg270260#msg270260). I've mentioned this in this thread a while back also.
Excellent work Yaobing!
-
Please email me a log file, thanks. yaobing at jriver dot com
The last couple of builds seem to have fixedthe majority of the "Failed to Play TV" messages, will try to do some testing tomorrow to see if I can get any.
I did notice today that with timeshifting starting automatically when I play a HD channel I get a blank screen and no sound similar to Nathan's report earlier.
Again, will test tomorrow and post logs.

What's the chance of getting some channel changing "hot keys" as discussed a long time ago, so that I can test TV while using my system with TheaterView and a remote control?
I can't test on my live system if the family have to Stop and scroll through the channels and select Play to channel "surf"!

V200 Results - Just got a chance to have a quick play (logs sent All.Log)
1) Dropping Sound (Recording): When stoping a recoding from a HD channel the sound gets dropped followed by MC crashing (see all.log).
2) FIXED - Sound is fine now when stoping Timeshifting from a HD channel
3) FIXED - Commencing TS on an HD channel now displays an image (after a blank screen for a second or so)
4) FIXED - Playing a TV channels now goes straight into Display View
5) An "Active Movie Window" kept poping up over the TV display playing a Video File then disapearing (see all.log) - was this some thumb nail buidling thing that should of be in the background?
6) Got a weird screen where had two menues overlapping (see weird.jpg and weird.log)

V201 Results - Just got a chance to have a quick play (logs sent All.Log)
1) FIXED - Sound is fine now when stoping from Recording from HD channel (you get a black screen for a second then what looks like a retune but it works)
Dropping Sound (Recording): When stoping a recoding from a HD channel the sound gets dropped followed by MC crashing (see all.log).
2) un-FIXED - Commencing TS (pressing pause) on an HD channel is back to a blank screen for 10 sec then "playing" diag appears, then pressing pause again starts TS. Also had a drop of audio comming back from TS then MC just crashed (see All.log)
3) FIXED - Dates for Recoding Titles are correct.

raym,
I moved your last post to Nathan's new thread.

I did this in today's build:
10. Changed: DVB-T channel names are no longer tagged with numbers.
Please try scanning and see if the result is correct. Export your registry key before doing it if you want to save your current channel data.
-
V202 Scanning - I've tired scanning a couple of times but have had problems where MC seems to hang after pressing the stop scanning button (I normally press this at around 32% as all the Oz channels are in by then) I've got a scan going now that I'll just let run to see what happens (FYI I get a "Put Channel Failed" error when going into the TV Options to commence scanning yet the display shows the different TV channels during scanning.)

The changes I made today really should not affect the Stop Scan button. Not sure what was going on.
put_Channel failed probably is harmless as it probably relates to your 'ghost' analog tuner.
-
OK - I let the scan run all the way through and it was fine (I've sent through a log of the scan after pressing stop - but really no big deal as you only do this once). The channel names look much better and mean I don't have to edit them manually anymore!
-
V202 Testing -Almost perfect ;D (have sent a log) with only a few minor things around Timeshifting:
- Delay: It can take up to 10 sec with a Blank Screen on an HD channel before TS starts (eg see the Nine HD TS)
- Double Pause: Sometime you press pause and the screen goes blank like above but after 10 sec or so you get a "playing TV" message, yet the screen is still blank. Pressing pause again then seems to start TS properly (eg see the ABC HD TS)
- Loss of sound: Sometimes when you go to another channel after stoping TS you lose sound (eg see the tune to 7 after ABC HD TS stop).
The rest seems all good (starting, stoping, tuning, recording).
Thanks
Nathan
-
V204 Testing (logs sent): All seems to work perfectly (scan, tune, record) except Timshift which is now really broken on all channels:
1) Pause of up to 10sec on the HD channels, then
2) OSD saying "playing" but
3) Black Screen with Sound and
4) Non responsive to key presses then
5) MC crashes
see both Timeshift Logs
Nathan
PS the recording out to the dvr-ms stuff is perfect, is it worth using that file format instead of the MC one (could also allow combined TS and Rec later ;D)
-
Build 204
Yep, TS is broken!! Not seeing any crashes though. I hit pause but video is not paused. I hear the audio continue but no video, just black. Hitting stop brings the video back in a non-TS mode.
A couple of minor things also:
1. As discussed, there's a delay between starting TV and MC jumping to Display View from Theater View. I've sent a log of this for you.
2. When first starting TV, the OSD invariably states that my signal strenth is very low - values between 0-30%. Now, I know this is incorect because I have excellent reception where I am. Not only this but MC later confirms this when I switch to another channel briefly and then back again. When I do this, the same channel now reports 90-100% signal strength!
Thanks.
-
Hi Raym, every since I upgraded to the latest DVICO SW I get terrific response with the only delay around initiating (eg with the pause button) and stoping TS. I do not have TS on by default as it has always been problematic for me. I think I remember a post from you awhile ago saying you have TS enabled by default, if so it may be worth turning this off to see if you still get the delay.
Also, it has been a long time since I was getting the really low signal strength signals (I used to just ignore them). MC now reports signal strength at tuning for me from 85-100%,
-
I never have TS on by default.
I'm generally happy with response times - startup, channel changing etc... This delay I've been talking to Yaobing about is a little more unique and has existed in one form or another for ages and with different capture devices/drivers.
Thanks.
-
Build 205
1. TS is back! :) The only minor thing I've noticed is when you hit pause to initiate it, The OSD says "Playing" (even though the video is obviously paused).
2. Got another crash today when I hit stop during TV playback. Did yesterday's logfile shed any light on this?
3. Got another few "Failed To Play TV..." messages today also. I've sent a log of this.
Thanks.

There was some clue, but we are not sure.
Did you get this only when stopping TV, not when stopping other types of playback?

I've been watching a lot of TV thru MC lately (thanks to DVB-T) and this is where I see it mostly but I've also seen it happen stopping other filetypes - dvr-ms for instance. Havn't seen it happen stopping music or image playback.
-
207 - Timeshift log sent - still problems for me:
1) HD Channel - first press of pause = blank screen and OSD saying it was playing after about 10 sec, second press of pause seems to then actually start TS with a paused picture
2) SD Channel - first time I got an weird error saying the disk could be full, second try was fine
Thanks

Hi Yaobing. I'm experiencing a great deal of MC problems lately. I suspect it's due to DVB-T since I'm using it a lot now and this is really the only significant thing I'm doing differently lately. I'm hoping you can help determine if this is true.
I've sent you another email with logfile and problem details.
Thanks.

V210 - Log sent as usual but basically for DVB-T
;D ;D IT ALL WORKS ;D ;D
The latest changes to TS seemed to have done the trick and it now kicks off just fine on all channels (though it seems to suffer from more "stutter" and "tearing" than when just playing or recording TV but I am playing with my playback settings to try to minimise this in general at the moment).
I'd suggest that you can update the Wiki and the "Official List of Support TV Devices" thread as http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=33741.0 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=33741.0)
as MediaCenter12 now supports the following functionality for DVB-T (and I presume similar features for ATSC and Analogue TV):
- Supports for SD/HD Video and MPEG / Dolby Digital Sound
- Scan function that finds available channels then lets you then remove and/or edit the Channel Names for easy of sorting
- Recording using dvr-ms format
- Timeshifting that allows the pausing of Live TV
I'll now play around some more and report any bugs in this thread but keep the feature enhancmement stuff in the other thread.
Yaobing - Thanks for all the work on this over the last five months!

Thanks. This is all really getting to me. I've been using MC12 for ages and now in the last few weeks, I'm lucky to go a day where it doesn't crash or misbehave somehow. Like I said, it could be a Theater View thing as there's been many changes there in the last few weeks also.
On a brighter note, v210 looks excellent here also.

I finally found where the error occurred. However I can not explain it.
A system filter failed to load, without giving any meaning message. I added some error handling code, hoping to get more info.
I am guessing:
It could be due to a resource leak (that can be anywhere in the program, not just in TV).
Or it can be hardware problem (system over heating for example).

I did a fresh install of build 212 today. About 10 minutes into watching some TV I hit STOP and BANG!... MC dissapeared again.
Logfile has been sent. At the end of the file is this: 1531953: 2908: Playback: CTVWindow::OnDestroy: Unknown error...
No sign of the "Failed to play TV" message.........yet........
EDIT: oops... there it is! This time during DVD playback. Log file sent.
-
Build 213: The "Failed to play TV (Unknown error)" continues... >:( A restart of MC fixes it every time.
More logs sent.
The latest occurance of this problem was captured on a fresh install of XP with nothing but MC installed. I purposely left the library empty to rule out any other media or library related issues.
Thanks.

Still all good for me - ;D

Do you run it in Theater View?
-
Always...Theater View (unless configing, testing something etc)
FYI - Config is: Dedicated HTPC
- PentD, 1GB RAM, 1TB HDDs, nVidia 7600GS Passive, Divico Fusion DVB-T Plus Card
- DVI & S/PDIF out to Yami V2700 (then HDMI to Hitachi Plasma and Axiom 5.1 Setup)
- Controlled by Yami RC (programed from the MS IR Home RC & Keyboard)
- XP SP/2 with nVidia Pure Video codec for most playback, Nero Splitters, then FFDShow for the rest
-
Still all good for me - ;D
Do you suspend your PC (S3) when not in use? Do you restart MC (in Theater View) each time you use it or do you leave the same session open for days? Are you using XP or MCE?
-
Just tried to scan channels with .214, I get a failed to Play TV error, when I click OK I get the options menu displayed but I can't click anything on it, the main MC windows sits behind the options menu and is still active and usable.
Have tried twice with same result.
Did a reset TV settings but this didn't fix it either.
Log emailed.

I only turn it off if I am going away, otherwise use suspend (presume it is S3 as the PC goes silent but would ned to check). I've got MC configed to boot into Theater View as the TV is the only screen. I can even go to and come back from suspend while tuned to a DVB-T channel just fine and it runs for days no problems without a reboot. I use XP & the whole setup is utterly stable (touch wood)!

Well, this is the kind of stability I had until about a month ago also. Here's hoping I'll have this again soon....

Richard,
You have four similar DVB-T devices. You chose one that is called "DNTV Live! Tiny USB2 BDA" (the first one). MC loaded a tuner filter corresponding to your choice, and found a matching capture filter but could not connect the two. MC then tried to load all other capture filters one by one but still failed to connect to the chosen tuner filter.
Can you play one of the other three devices?
You may already have tried restarting MC, and rebooting your computer. If either of these would work, you may have to reinstall your digital TV device drivers. I remember several months ago we have solved your multiple similar device problem, and you were able to get MC build a graph successfully. The relevant code that I added to solve the problem has not changed (not significantly anyway).
Had you tried versions before 214? (Judging by the kind of failure you got, other versions of MC would also fail the same way).
the main MC windows sits behind the options menu and is still active and usable.
It appears that you ran TV Options from Tools -> Options -> Playback -> TV Tuner -> TV Settings ...
If this is the case, then the behavior is expected. Running TV Options from that place is intended for users to configure TV while playing other media types without entering TV view (which would interrupt the current playback of other media). If you just want to start configuring TV, it is best to start it on the TV view. In Standard View, click "TV Tuner" under "Drives & Devices"; in Theater View, click TV button from Home. This way the TV Options window will be modal to MC window and you will not be able to click anything untill you exit the TV Options.

Yaobing,
Have just reinstalled .210.
.210 scans/plays DVB-T fine, can try other versions but I know .213 and .214 fail.

Ver 218 testing - All works ;D inlcuding:
- Scan & Edit from StdView (paused at 20% then continued after a few minutes)
- Channel Changing from Theater View
- TS and Record from Theater View
I'll post so comments about the new layout under the V218 thread.
Thanks

Basically, all's been pretty good for me for a while now. I think build 217 may have done the trick!
Today I upgraded from build 217 to 220 and have found a small problem. If I seek during TS mode, I can sometimes loose the audio. If I jump back or forward, the audio returns. I've sent a log of this.
Thanks.
-
As per Ralf - few complaints from my end :). I can lose Audio if I'm recording on a HD Channel, stop recording then tune to a SD Channel with MPEG audio but no biggie as a stop / play brings it back.
What i'd really like is:
1) Remove Jitter - posted here http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=40220.0 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=40220.0) but it seems worse with DVB-T than playing media (but it could also be the nature of Live TV).
2) RC Record Button - imagine the joy of just pressing the Red Record button on the remote......
Thanks

Build 223
Hi Yaobing. Some (minor) feedback for you:
1. OSD flickering issues (detailed in the build thread here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=40266.msg274955#msg274955 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=40266.msg274955#msg274955)). Seems to happen with TV playback only.
2. Also, the "Starting TV..." message doesn't always appear at the bottom of the screen (In Theater View). I think it has to do with where the PIP Playing Now window was last before starting TV.
-------
Also, not related to this build but some other recent observations:
1. I worked out that the Failed to play TV error messages I was seeing a few weeks back were the result of using the MPV video decoder!!! I've now returned to the Cyberlink ones and have not had a problem since. Even if I don't use this filter for television, it will always causes this error as long as:
(a) it's installed and being used for at least one other filetype. Eg, dvr-ms
(b) you attempt to play TV after a period of system inactivity where the PC has been woken up from a STANDBY state.
So, for example: i. Install the MPV decoder; ii. Start MC; iii. Play some content; iv. Suspend the PC (S3); v. Resume the PC from standby the next day; vi. Attempt to play TV and this will generate the "Failed To Play TV" message - EVERY TIME!
Is this an MC problem, an MPV decoder problem or both?
2. On the topic of resuming from standby.... If you suspend and resume the PC while watching TV in normal, non-TS mode, TV resumes perfectly no problem. This is really cool by the way :). However, if you attempt the same thing while MC is in TS mode, it crashes MC as it tries to re-tune the channel. My family have a habit of suspending the PC while watching TV quite a bit so this is causing some issues. They were previously used to Windows Media Center and this application seems to handle this ok (as do other HTPC front-ends I've used in the past). Any chance of fixing this please? Do you need a log of this?
Other than these things, all's well.
Cheers.

Nathan,
It appears to be decoder related. I tried all MPEG-2 decoders I have, with different results. DScaler5 decoder gives least (almost not noticable) flickering. The next best is Cyberlink SP/Video decoder (ATI). MainConcept Video decoder is the worst. MPV and a couple of other decoders are in the middle.

Hi Yaobing,
When playing with the View Scheme for TV Recording I noticed that MC always records everthing at 704x480 (looks like NTSC specs) resolution but with bitrate around 7200 for SD and 12750 for HD. If I look at recordings from the DVICO SW (saved as MPG) I get the ACTUAL PAL resolutions being broadcast eg, 720x576, 1440x1080, 1920x1080 with the bitrates around 6750, 13350, and 14450 respectivly.
Thanks
Nathan
EDIT - I've check playing these files using WMP and they are recorded with the correct resolutions - it seems that the meta data in MC is incorrectly applying 704x480 for all internally recorded TV streams.

Hi Yaobing, some new bugs (tidied up a little since my last post):
1. Since the recent OSD changes to allow transparency, it flickers when displayed during TV playback at fullscreen (other settings I have enabled are: cyberlink filters, cropped edges and 16:9 aspect ratio). The problem does not occur if not fullscreen.
2. If you run the new MCC command to tune to your last tv station (via script or command line) while in Theater View's Playing Now, The OSD ("Starting TV...") is displayed small and half-way up the screen AND nothing is shown in the Playing now window when the station is tuned. I have "Jump on Play: Display View (if has display)" enabled in my Theater View options. The "Starting TV..." message also appears in strange locations when initiating the new MCC command from Theater View's Main Menu.
3. If you run the new MCC command while in Theater View's Main Menu and while TV is already running, nothing happens (as expected). However, when you stop TV playback, MC exists to Standard View instead of Theater View. Edit: There are various other ways to cause Standard View to come into focus when it shouldn't as a result of this MCC command.
4. In build 225, 1080i HD material is shown as 1088i ??
Thanks.

Tried the DScaler5 and played with its options a fair bit but on balance I think the nVidia one is better. The both give me the same amount of flickering but the DScaler5 also have visible interlace lines on fast moving video. I'm become more convinced the issue is a graphics driver or a combination of all the conversions (eg DVB broadcast 1080i/50 and 576i/50 which is then going though a bunch of filters and finally output over DVI from nVidia using 720p/50 to a 1024x1024 Plasma). The thing is the stutter is really only noticable on DVB based material (both Live and Recorded) so.....
Thanks

BUILD 227
Hi Yaobing. The problems associated with the repeated use of the new MCC TV command is fixed. Thanks. Not to be difficult but if you start television in Display View from Theater View (Shift+F11), stopping TV still quits out to Standard View. I don't think this is something people would do very often but it may be unexpected behaviour none-the-less.
The bizzaar OSD placement issues in Theater View, particularily when in Playing Now, is still all over the place. This may be related to how the Theater View PIP window can reside is so many different places and positions now. The OSD attempts to align to this normally right? Use the MCC command at Theater View's Main Menu and Playing Now to see the problems I'm talking about.
The OSD "flickering" problem (at fullscreen) also remains as does the 1088i showing on HD content rather than 1080i.
Did the log files help with these problems? Do you need any more info?
Thanks.

For Standard View users:
The MCC_PLAY_TV command (30002) is actually available as a Tool Button. Right-click on Toolbar and choose "Customize Toolbar...". Select "Play TV" from the list on the left and click -> button. The tool buttons can be placed on top and/or bottom of the window.

Now that we have this command, are we going to get the ability to change channels using hotkeys somehow in the near fuuture?
This is the only thing stopping me using MC instead of my current software for live TV.

Has anyone tried command MCC_PLAY_CPLDB_INDEX (it's value is 10015)? It takes an index parameter which is the 0-based index of the current playlist. Once TV has started playing, the current playlist is just the list of your channels.
MC12 /MCC 10015,0 will play your first channel in the list,
MC12 /MCC 10015,5 will play your 6th channel in the list, etc.
Now all you have to do is to put an ordinal number in your TV Station Names and sort by station names in order to arrange your channels in the way you want them.

Great! The only tiny little catch is when you change the order of your channels, you need to stop TV (by clicking Stop button) and restart in order for the new order to take effect.

Yeah but that shouldn't happen very often...

After playing a while, I think this IS something people will do quite often. I've done it a few times already. For example, I'm in Theater View, I start watching a DVD and MC swtiches to Display View. Half way through the DVD I decide to watch TV so I hit my MCC_PLAY_TV button. All ok until I hit STOP. MC quits to Standard View.
Could your fix from the other day be extended to cater for this? In other words, anytime the initial starting point for playback is Theater View, stop should always exit to Theater View.
Thanks again.
PS - I've tried numerous things to resolve the OSD problems (flickering and orientation woes) to rule out the settings I'm using etc. It's definately MC :( and only since a handful of builds ago. Also, the flickering issue only happens with live tv - video playback is ok.
-
In regards to this:
After playing a while, I think this IS something people will do quite often. I've done it a few times already. For example, I'm in Theater View, I start watching a DVD and MC swtiches to Display View. Half way through the DVD I decide to watch TV so I hit my MCC_PLAY_TV button. All ok until I hit STOP. MC quits to Standard View.

I will check this.

It is a problem not just in TV, video playback too, and to lesser degree DVD playbackIt has to do with Matt's recent experiment with tranparency. I am sure Matt will take a look at this.

Hi Yaobing. Fixed! Thanks.
Also, MCC_PLAY_CPLDB_INDEX is working really well ;). One problem though: Using MCC_PLAY_CPLDB_INDEX while in Theater View (or Display View from Theater View) forces MC out to Standard View on STOP. In other words, this is similar to what MCC_PLAY_TV was doing before you fixed it last week.

Unrelated to this though is the problem of 1088i showing up on HD content. Other HD resolutions seem to be displaying ok.
Thanks again!

Yeah, looks good now. Thanks!
The OSD orientation/placement issues are also sorted now!!
The only remaining problem is the flickering.
Thanks again. :)
PS - MC's DVB-T support (and TV in general) is really awesome now. Well done guys.

:'( I think I broke mine....tried an beta nVidia driver update to fix flickering.....something to play with on the weekend. FYI Ralf there is a new version of the dvico drivers out if you are still using their card.

I've got my DVB-T card working again! However I've found some odd behaviour with TV Recordings:
1) I'm still getting MC reporting odd resolutions of the recorded files like 704x480 on HD recordings, and 768x576 on SD stuff
2) One of my recordings does not show up in the library and will not play in MC (but will in say WMP) - I've sent a log file on this one, showing that the TEN recoding will not play followed by a 9 HD that does
3) I also had one recoding today that did not have the Genre set (it is blank instead of "TV Recodings")
Thanks

Hi Yaobing. I've got a a timeshifting question for you I've been meaning to ask you for a while. Here's the sequence of events:-
1. In Theater View
2. Play some TV (MC jumps to Display View)
3. Hit Pause
4. Some time later I hit Play
5. Some time later again I FF (Ctrl+Shift+Right arrow repeatedly and without pausing first) all the way to the end of the TS buffer. In other words, FF to the point where the timeshift playback position equals the max timeshift duration point....
At this stage, MC runs really slow. For example, I toggle to Theater View and the background visualisation and Theater View animations are very jerky and slow to respond. Other PC functions, even simple things like launching IE, take a very long time. The way to fix it however is to tap the REW button or to pause the TS playback briefly and replay.
It has something to do with MC attempting to buffer and playback the recorded stream at the same point in time. Pausing and restarting playback forces a brief amount of time between these two points I guess and then everything's ok.
Can you explain this slow down? Can you reproduce it or even fix it? I can provide a log if you like.
Thanks.

The ability to rename TV Channels on the "TV Configuration Screen" is broken again (works fine when you are in the tunning box).

The log does not reveal much. The only thing I see is that there is no ending quote mark (") on the filename when you tried to play it from the command line. That however should not be the problem becaue it still works for me.
The problem seems that the file cannot be imported and MC does not recognize it as a media file.
Try doing a manual import from Windows Explorer, and/or dragging the file to the Player Control area to play it. Then send me a log again.

I still can not find any Importing related entries in your log files. The only things I found are related to launching a file using command line:
General: Launcher: Command Line: /Play "C:\TV Recording\10 Digital 24_05_2007 19_30.dvr-ms
Did you try right-clicking the file in Windows Explorer, and selecting Media Center -> Import?

Ahhh I don't seem to have that option - I tried draging and dropping it into the file list in STD view and also the playing area a couple of time in that log file.

Hi Yaobing, any luck with these DVB-T recordings?
I've had more of a play and looks like I've sorted it (I think :) ) - I did not have any filters selected for dvr-ms file types and tried the DScaler5 you suggested previously. I can now import and play the offending files. A good side result is it does seem to play DVB-T better than the NVidia Pure Video filter so I am now trying this for all my MPG playback as well (will report how it goes)
Thanks
Nathan

Sorry for not being able to read your log file earlier. For some reason importing with DirectShow did not work. Not selecting a decoder is a reason, but DirectShow is supposed to pick one by default. Somehow DirectShow was confused.
As a result, MC imported the file as Data file. That is why you can not play them. Check under "Documents" you may find some such files (if you have not re-imported them all).

Mmmm I got the problem again after upgrading to the latest MC build & playing with codec (on my Jitter reduction quest)...Pressing the REC button (with glee - have I said how happy I am) and it records fine but does not get imported, a manual import just adds it as a document. However, after a reboot the REC works fine on the same stations so I'm guessing that after stuffing around either installing a new version of MC12 or playing with the CODECS I will have the patience to reboot first!

Hi Yaobing, I've done a clean install of Vista on my HTPC (from XP SP/2) and I now get a "failed to record, failed to build graph" error when I try to record. Have sent log.

DirectShow renders everything correctly, but would not be able to run the graph. This is something that puzzles me. Must be something about Vista.
Did you run it under Administer rights? It seems to work.

I've not had much time to play (the familly seem to want to watch stuff not play with the technnology - go figure!). But Yes recording works if JRMC12 is Run as an Administrator but I've a couple of Q's:
1) Will it always need Admin Rights to record (and why)?
2) Apart from Recoding is there anything else that MC12 requries Admin Rights to do?
3) I know how to set the properties so MC12 always runs as an Administrator but the UAC diag will always pop up which makes it hard to auto config JRMC12 to pop up as the front end of a HTPC, any config options suggested.
Thanks

I suggested trying administrator rights only to confirm what we have observed. This is the an issue that I am still trying to solve. For now you will have to use admin rights to record digital TV on Vista. I do not know any other features of MC that would require the same (I think all you should need to do is to run it under admin rights once).
I hope I will fix this soon.

Hi Yaobing - another one for you....When a do a TV recording some of them get Taged as "Station Name" under Album Name and some used the "Date". I've got example from Today using V255. I'm not to fussed (as long as it is consistent) but I guess that I'd go for the following tagging:
Genre = TV Recordings
Artist = Channel Name
Album = Date/Time in reverse order so they sort correctly (eg YY/MM/DD - HH:SS)
Thanks
Nathan

Hi Yaobing, I know there are still a few kinks to work out but any clues when we might see the following features added to TV:
- Thumbnails (so users can add their Station Logos instead of the default nothing)
- Scheduled Recording in T'View
- EPG (to also expand on the above)
- Channel # support (eg so I can press 9 on my RC to go to Channel 9)
- Channel # support for external Video devices (eg using the IR blasters to change channels on a Cable box then switch MC to the Analogue input.)
Thanks
Nathan

Thanks for reporting. I see it now that you mentioned it.
Do you have MC automatically watch your TV Recordings folder? I believe that is the problem. When MC auto import, it uses the default behavior of tagging Album with "Date". So which "Album" a recording ends up in depends on whether Auto Import kicked in during recording.
This will be solved by partially adopting your suggestion, by putting "TV Station Name"/"Channel Name" in Artist field, and leaving Album field do default behavior.
-

Yes I do but I can take this out very easily as my TV Recordings go to a seperate drive (it was added in the "old" days to get the ms-dvr stuff imported post recording).
Thanks
Nathan

I have made the change. Now Album will have "Date", the same as the default importing behavior for video. Artist will get Channel Name.

Hi Yaobing,
FYI - I've been trying to track down some stability issues :( and for now I've removed my PCI based DVICO Card and am using a the DVICO NANO USB device (I think I've got a overheating issue in a crampted Dell case but we will see). Anyway, I have noticed the following issues that are common regardless of what device I use. Unfortunaly I've missed the log that had MC being "unresponsive" just after starting a scheduled recording, but I've sent another log file (LOG.ZIP) that may show:
1) Stuttering during CH aquisition: When you select a CH to play, the Video/Sound comes on then freeses for a second, plays for a second, freeses for a second, then plays fine. Repeatable on every CH, every time. On one occasion in the Log (a CH10 Tune) you may see that it just stayed on a freeze (still pic, no sound) - yet MC was responsive and I could "STOP" and restart the CH just fine.
2) Analogue Audio Connection Flashes: I've got my HTPC hooked up to my Yami AV Receiver using S/PDIF. When I enter the "TV" page in Theater View my Yami's PCM light starts flashing very quickly for a second or so (indicating that the source is coming in & out). The same behaviour happens when you STOP a TV Channel that was using PCM. I've not seen this "flashing" behaviour at any other time.
Thanks
Nathan

Hi Yaobing,
Perhaps not surprising but the following creates havoc (I've sent LOG2)!
1) "View TV During Scheduled Recording" is ticked
2) Make a scheduled recording
3) Start T'View and play music etc
When the scheduled recording starts it appears in a seperate window (top left) and the audio is mixed with the music that is playing. T'View still has the focus so using the RC then brings T'View forward to the front (over the TV Box) but you still hear the mix of sound. If you go into the TV section of Theater View you then get the "Failed to Start TV" error diags that go round in circles, you end up needing the drag the keyboard out to try to get control (but can not). It is stuck like this till the scheduled recording ends then MC becomes "non responsive" in Vista and needs to be closed and restarted (but the recording worked just fine!)
Thanks
Nathan

Even more!
* LOG3 shows what happends if Scheduled Recodrings overlap (the second one seems to be ignored) but if one ends and the other starts at the same time (eg Finish recoding CH10 at 7:30 and Start CH9 at 7:30) you get error messages and MC hangs
* LOG4 I hope captures that "chipmunk" audio problem you sometimes get when tuning to a TV channel with Analogue sound. One of the good things about the multiple "Stuttering during CH aquisition" mentioned above is that it only lasts for a second!
Thanks
Nathan
