Title: MC changing iPod name (sort of)

Hi,

I'm using MC12 Beta (loving it so far BTW) but I've got a small problem, and believe me it is a small. But a small problem is a problem none-the-less.  :D

When I use my 4G Colour iPod with MC it changes the name of my iPod, "Jamie's iPod" (how original :P), to "IPOD". But here's the weird bit, it shows up in MC as "Jamie's iPod" (when I rename it) and in explorer, but when I connect it to say my Xbox 360 it'll show up as "IPOD", also shows up as "IPOD" if I use Media Monkey.

If I rename it in Media Monkey back to "Jamie's iPod" it shows up as "Jamie's iPod" on the 360, but as soon as I use MC with my iPod again it changes it back to "IPOD".

Is there anyway to fix/change this? Thanks in advance.

I wonder if the space or the ' character is causing a problem.  Try something like jamiespod.  Just a wild guess.

Hi JimH, thanks for the reply!

I renamed the iPod to "jamiesipod", "Jamies iPod" and finally back to "Jamie's iPod" and they didn't revert back to "IPOD". But after I had transferred some songs to it, I accessed it through my 360 and it had changed back to "IPOD".

I'll fully test this out later to see if using say "jamiesipod" as the name and transferring music also changes it to "IPOD".

Anyone else experiencing this?

Just a bit of an update...

I tried all different variations of "Jamie's iPod"; "jamiesipod", "jamies ipod", "jamie_ipod", and MC changed it to "IPOD" everytime I used it to manage my iPod.

Anyone have any ideas?

After you change it, choose redetect devices in MC's Options for Handhelds.  Then connect it.  It's probably remembering the device's name when it last saw it.

I tried that and it showed up in MC as "Apple iPod Photo", so I renamed it "Jamie's iPod" and checked it on my 360 and it showed up as "IPOD" again.  :(

I think I should just give up.  :P

Try Jim's advice again but use jamiesipod as the name.  If you really want to be sure you are not going to get problems never use a non-alpha character in the name.

I don't have iTunes or Media Monkey installed anymore and TBH I can't be bothered installing one, and I don't really know if it'll work.

I'll just leave it for now, not really worth the stuffing around.
