Title: WARNING! IRMAN - Evation.com take your money but do not deliver
Post by: Araj on January 30, 2007, 05:37:57 am
I ordered an IRMAN remote from Evation.com on Dec 12th 2006, a full 7 weeks ago now and didn't get anything yet. I believe it's supposed to come from Holland. I sent e-mails to 2 different Evation addresses - no reply. They say somewhere on their site to expect delivery within 3-4 weeks. Heaven knows how they can ship anything that it takes 4 weeks these days, but more than 7? Anyone got a phone no. or whatever for Evation? Similar experiences?

They were seriously slow at delivering mine. Took about
4 weeks I think.
7 weeks is taking the buscuit.
Keep emailing them.  Eventually I found they did reply.
I did threaten with going to the bank and withdrawing payment
however.

Still no IRMAN or reply

Unfortunately I can't threaten to cancel the payment as I paid by CC with the order. Or can I ?

Ring you're credit card provider, some of them will
get involved.

I once had a problem similar to this sort of - I phoned my CC and told them I wasn't going to pay for the item as I had never received it and that it was their problem and they could deal with it.

What'd you know - a week later the company responded lol.
By law the CC companies are equally as much at risk as you are for purchases on a CC - part of the laws they made when the goverment let them exist.

Still nothing. 2 months+ and counting. When I checked back, I realised that I made the order through PayPal. I filled in all the details for a dispute on the Paypal site and in the last step, it announced that Paypal were unable to help with disputes for "this type of transaction". What "this type of transaction" is, is anybody's guess. They're unable to help with goods ordered from companies or what?

Looks like it might be time to consider thinking seriously about announcing IRMAN support for MC. I ordered the IRMAN because I saw that it's officially supported.

Can you post the details you have for them?  We'll write and ask.

Include your name and date of purchase.

I'm jimh at jriver if you need to e-mail me.

Cheers
Title: 10 weeks today
Post by: Araj on February 20, 2007, 06:27:35 am
Yep, it's 10 weeks today and still no IRMAN, e-mail replies or other signs of life from Evation  >:(

I will celebrate by sending them another e-mail - maybe by chance someone is bored at Evation and will reply?

The lack of interest from Evation confirms my opinion that companies with no street address (or even country in this case) on their website are not to be trusted.

I notice that no forum members have stepped forward saying that they received one recently....

They should change the name to Evasion

Thanks Alex

Unfortunately it doesn't help. I tried a few times and they don't pick up the phone, you just get a message saying there's no-one available to take the call.

I also contacted my credit card company and they say complaints for non-receipt of goods have to be received within 30 days.

Definitely looks like Evation went under but are still collecting payments online, and Paypal and Mastercard don't seem to care much. Sigh.

Just got a reply from Paypal on why they're not investigating:

"According to our policy guidelines we investigate claims if they have been filed within a 45 day timeframe after the initial transaction date. Unfortunately, we received your claim on February 20th 2007 which is after the  mentioned 45 day deadline and, thus will not be investigated. If it is still within 60 days of the initial transaction date and the item was purchased on eBay, please contact eBay for further information as you may be able to file a claim with eBay directly.

Please be advised that PayPal reserves the right to reopen any claim for investigation within 180 days if we receive multiple complaints about a single seller. We will contact you via email if this is the case."

Anyone else order an IRMAN recently? Please speak up !

I see Jim has removed the IRMAN from the list of supported hardware.

Too late for me, but for the rest of you, be warned !

Try reporting the problem to your bank.  They may be able to withdraw your funds from Paypal.

Good luck.

You can order the Ira-3 from Home Electronics. It is compatible with the Irman. It works very well with Media Center's Irman plugin.

I am in exactly the same situation now.
I ordered an IRMAN a couple of weeks ago, the money has been drawn by PayPal - and my calls to Evation are consistently answered by their answering machine.

From your posting, I can understand that it likely that the money is simply lost.
My guess is that the company has closed down, but it should defintely be reported somewhere before more people get tricked.

Is there really nothing one can do about such fraud?

If you paid via Pay Pal I would report it to them as it means irman must have a paypal account.

Paypal should investigate it, and then close down their account and I'm sure they will if you push a bit.

Hello Goulin

Yes please contact Paypal !

They told me that if they had another complaint about Evation, they would definitely follow it up - but do it quick before you run out of time !

Let me know if you need more details - I could send you copies of my correspondence with Paypal if you like.

I escalated the Dispute to a Claim at PayPal today.
From PayPal:

Quote
You have chosen to escalate your dispute to a PayPal claim. By ending
communication with the seller, you are asking PayPal to investigate the
case and decide the outcome. As part of our investigation, PayPal will
review any communication you may have had in the Resolution Center.
......
......

We will make every effort to resolve this claim within 30 days although we
may require additional time to complete our investigation.

Our investigation will be made on a best-effort basis and PayPal cannot
guarantee funds recovery. For more information about how PayPal
investigates complaints, please review the User Agreement.
[end quote]

Let's see what happens.
I'll update you.

Btw. I ordered and received the IRA-3 from www.vendur.no, as suggested elsewhere in this thread.
It works like a charm with IRassistant, which is a really nice piece of freeware.
Their service was excellent!
Learned by experience, I contacted them by phone in advance, to be sure they were alive and had the item in stock, before I placed the order.

I think this is the lesson for me: Always ensure that an e-company is alive and contactable, before even thinking of making business with them.

Any news on your claim, Goulin? I see Evation.com are still pretending to supply the IRMAN and using PayPal for payments
