In the latest build, CD/DVD writing doesn't work right any more.
No matter which ISO setting is chosen, directories and filenames are truncated to 8 characters.
This worked well in previous builds.

Please try build 157 at the top of this board. I think something like this was fixed a few builds back, but am not certain.

Can you describe the problem you are seeing in more detail? Where are you seeing the truncated filenames, in Windows explorer? I burn many data CD's and DVD's and have never seen truncated filenames.
If you're seeing 8 characters on your DVD player or other non-computer device, it may be a limitation of that device. What do you have selected for "Advanced ISO Options"?

Yes, the problem occurs in Windows explorer.
I try to replicate the structure of my library when burning my data DVDs.
So i use Artist\Album for the path and Artist - Year - Album - Track# - Name.mp3 for my filenames.
I have set the correponding properties in the burning options (including the ISO options).
What i get is:
LEONARDC\SONGSOFL\LEONARD1.mp3
LEONARDC\SONGSOFL\LEONARD2.mp3
LEONARDC\SONGSOFL\LEONARD3.mp3
...
when i watch it with Windows explorer
it should be:
Leonard Cohen\Songs of Leonard Cohen\Leonard Cohen - 1964 - Songs of Leonard Cohen - 1 - Suzanne.mp3
...
(this is just an example).
It worked very well some time ago, but the last couple of builds broke this feature.

In Tools/Options/File System, do you have "ISO 9660" selected?
Which option is checked on the Tools/Options/Advanced ISO options dialog?
Also, can you confirm that it's not a problem with the cd-rom driver software, by checking that you can view long filenames on other discs with this drive? Could you paste your system info here (from MC's Help/System info menu option).

Long Filenames are no problem with DVDs burnt with NERO
In Options:
File System: ISO 9660 (Recommended) is chosen
Advanced ISO & Joliet Options: ISO Version 2 Long (212 char.filenames) is chosen (but doesn't work with other options, too)
CD/DVD Folder Naming: Artist/Album is chosen
CD/DVD File Naming: Custom: [Artist - [Date (year)] - [Album] - [Track #] - [Name]

Ok, I was able to reproduce the problem burning a data DVD with the "ISO Version 2 Long (212 char. filenames)" option selected. Apparently Windows does not support this ISO filenaming mode on DVDs, which is strange since it works fine on burned CD's. I'm going to investigate this further.
When I selected the standard "ISO Version 1 plus Joliet" the DVD burned fine with the long filenames. Could you try again with this option selected?

Ok, i checked it again.
On DVDs:
None of the options, including "ISO Version 1 plus Joliet", work for me.
I always get the 8.3 filenames and directories.
On CDs:
"ISO Version 1 plus Joliet" is working as expected (but truncates my filenames after 64 characters).
"ISO Version 2 Long" doesn't work on CDs either.

The only thing I can think of is that we're breaking an ISO or Joliet filenaming rule somewhere. Please copy and paste the names of the folders and files that you are trying to burn. Just prep for the burn like normal, then view "details" to see the actual DVD folder names and file names, then copy and paste those names to your reply. Then I'll try to duplicate the naming onto my DVD.
If there are too many files to do this reasonably, please try burning a DVD with just one or two files on it (using "ISO Version 1 plus Joliet" mode), verify that it results in truncated 8.3 names, then paste the names in this thread.

By the way, i named the disc "TestBurn" but that was ignored.

Are you using re-writable media and erasing the contents between burns?
I've fixed a bug that may have caused short filenames when erasing and rewriting DVD+RW discs. Please try the next build and let us know.

Yes, that's right.
But no matter how i'm erasing the disc, the effect is always the same.
- Erasing inside MC
- Erasing with NERO
- Not restarting MC after erase
- Restarting MC after erase
- Shutting down and restart the PC and MC
- Using new (unused) re-writable media
- Using CDs instead of DVDs
I'll test with write-only media

If you'd be willing to spend the time, you could download and install a program to view the structure of your burned disc. The download link is here:

Then you could burn a new disc with a couple data files (in standard ISO/Joliet mode) and view it with Isobuster and post an image like the attachment below. Actually I just want to confirm that there is both an ISO file system (the one in red that says "ISO") and a Joliet file system (the one in blue that has ">>>" in it).

I think you are right: There seems to be no Joliet file system on the disc.

I tested the latest build (189) and found out:
Same problem, i.e. no Joliet structures are created on disc.
But: Disc-name is written, now.
