I synch my music files from my "working" machine to my media server automatically. The "working" machine is where I do my rips, tagging, iPod synch etc.
I want to synch the updated library from my working machine to the server to reflect the changes :-
1. Which library/cache files from the "working" machine do I need to synch across? (do I copy the entire J River directory structure from Documents & Settings?);
2. Can I synch play-count stats from the server back to the other machine but not reflect any other changes? If so which files do I need to target?
All directory structures, drive names, paths etc. are duplicated identically between the two machines.

I'm confused...are you talking about sharing a database?
They access the same database, same files, etc. You have MC closed on the one rig (maybe remotely shut down MC from your laptop) and then open the Library on the laptop (even though it's the same database you have to name it differently according to Matt). Now your not limited to the Read-Only protection that kicks in when two instances of the library are "active" sharing the database. You can edit or tag and the changes will stick. Is this what you mean?

envyc, how to you sync the music files? Do you use MC or an external app for this?

BTW... If you also want to sync the "settings" between two or more different copies (or user accounts) of MC, then I wrote a script for this as well. Check here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=36031.0
