What Monkey's Audio compression level you have used? If the files happen to be encoded with the "Insane" setting (which is not available in MC for a good reason) decompression is extremely slow.
Have you tested what is your normal conversion speed when you convert separate tracks with the same MP3 setting?
For example,
177 tracks may have a total duration of 177 x 4 minutes = 708 minutes
If the conversion speed is 10x then it should take about 71 minutes.
What you mean by "normal", by the way? VBR Normal? You could use the Fast switch too. It is safe to use and it is going to be the default VBR mode in the future MC versions. It can increase the encoding speed about 20 - 40%.

APE settings are normal. I cancelled the conversion and restarted it using mp3 normal and low. Nothing seemed to work. It just sat there.

Do you have enough temp space? MC creates a physical ISO file of the CD image before it starts the actual burning.
EDIT
What exact settings do you mean by "MP3 normal and low"?
Did this work with some earlier MC12 build, i.e. has the behavior changed recently?
Does it work if you select only a few files to be converted and burned?
(You can use the test mode or a rewritable disc so that the disc will not be wasted.)
