Title: How to play on remote speakers
Post by: arixey on February 17, 2007, 02:17:00 pm
I have a new laptop, and I'd like to be able to play my music on my home theater system.  What sort of hardware do I need to do this?

It looks like a Roku Soundbridge might be what I want, BUT all the literature about it seems to imply that I choose the songs through the Roku interface.  That's not what I want.  I want to be using my laptop while I have Media Center running, and I'm controlling the playlist and music on the laptop.  I just want the sound to come out of the external speakers.

Does a Soundbridge do this, or can I only control it through their remote control?  Are there any cheaper options that I can plug in to my receiver?  (It seems a little silly to pay $200 to push music across the room.)  It does not matter to me whether it requires a WiFi or Ethernet cable, I have a router near my receiver.
