I presently store music, pictures and other media on a file server on my network. My family uses notebook computers and a wireless network to access these files. We generally don't store these media files on our own notebooks.
Since we don't have media stored on our notebooks these files are unavailable when we are not connected to the home network.
I would like to sync favorite files to a local media folder on the notebooks based on smartlists & playlists so we have these files available when we are away from home - much like we do with our iPods using MediaCenter.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Yes, you can do this. Just create a device and use a path name on your hard disk (instead of a path name describing a device).
I do this with my library: it's too large to fit on my laptop unconverted, so I sync (with conversion) before a trip.
When at home, I use the unconverted files on my server.

Forgive me ... how do you create a device? I see in the help files that devices are all auto-detected.
I'm assuming there's a way to create a device that basically points to a drive folder, right?

Check under Options/Handhelds.
