I am running MC12.164 on Windows Server 2003
Client (same version) on Vista Ultimate.
Attempt to find media servers bring the message: "Failed to find local Media Server"
I can telnet to server box port 80 successfully.
I tried to disable firewall on Vista - no effect.
I tried to specify IP in library manager - it loads empty library.
It always worked on XP.
Any ideas?
Thanks

What happens if you try the test here:
http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/Library_Server#Tracking_Down_Problems

It asks to save file when do browser test.
Server indicates that "Sending Library" which it didn't before.
-
And if you try via IP address from Media Center, it doesn't say "Sending Library" on the server?
Sounds like Vista has security set up to block IP traffic from Media Center.

I wonder how explicit IP library works. It looks a lot that it just does not try to access this IP.
How does MC distinguish whether it is local or server library?
I specify IP '10.10.1.56', in place of library name. It demands that I choose unique location, which does not make sense since
library is remote and also location is not required if I do auto search. And then I end up with no error but empty library.
Server MC does not show any attempt to access library.

Hi Alex,
I updated the wiki page quite a bit:
http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/Library_Server
Take a look please and let me know if it helps (or where I need to add more).
Make sure you are using the correct IP address and port on the client (I put in some suggestions in the wiki to help with this).
The empty library problem sounds like you are connecting to another program, not Library Server, or that a firewall is preventing the library transfer.
The library is sent as a compressed file, so Windows may be blocking that.
I can't test this myself until monday, so let me know before then if you had any success.

Hi John,
I am not sure if it was something that you added to wiki but I figured that all this time
I mistakenly was entering IP in name field and not location. After I entered it in location
field - library started to work.
I suggest that UI dialog is made more explicit in that respect. I'd probably add some additional
radio button + text field to distinguish local vs remote library.
Auto search still does not work - that may be related to Vista security.
Thanks

The nice thing about auto-search is that then you don't have to worry about IP addresses and ports. Sigh...
But, in Vista's defense, the UDP broadcast mechanism is the heart of some evil denial-of-service attacks ("smurfs" I believe).
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look at adding them
