I recently switched from Win2K to XP and everytime I hook up/turn on a media drive (USB), XP does this "Auto Play" scan thing. It did it once with each of the internal drives. Is there some way to turn this behaviour off?

Try a right click on the drive in Explorer and look under properties.
A google search might also help.

Get TweakUI for XP.
There are settings for Autoplay where you can turn it off by drive letter or by type of drive.

Try this. Go to:
My Computer-->Right Click (on the drive)-->Properties-->Autoplay-->Select Action to Perform (turn on)-->Take No Action-->Apply

TweakUI is the best way to configure this and many of the other annoying "helpful" features of XP. It's from Microsoft, it works, and it's free. Disabling by drive letter, I find, is the most reliable way to turn off the AutoPlay feature once and for all. I just use TweakUI and turn off all of the drives.

Thanks guys! The right click on properties, etc, did the trick! Yeah, XP sure can be a little too helpful at times. ;D
