Title: will I lose my library during the upgrade?
Post by: finallygreen on March 21, 2007, 04:30:53 pm
First off (since this is my first post)...hello!

I'm a registered user of MC 11.0.314, and I'm thinking of upgrading to 12.  My biggest concern right now is to not wind up losing my library data.  I use MC to catalog video files from a lot of offline locations (specifically, several hundred DVD-R discs!).  I would absolutely HATE to have to sit there, re-insert each disc one at a time, then add the detailed info for each one (once was enough, lol!).

If I read it correctly, my version is just old enough that in order to get the upgrade pricing, I may have to install an 'in-between' version (a later MC 11) in order for the system to recognize me as a registered user and only charge me $20 for my upgrade to v12.  Assuming this is true, can someone detail to me the CORRECT way for me to go about NOT losing any of my library info until it's safely restored to v12?

Thanks!

you may want to upgrade to the latest version of MC11 First

i think the latest was 11.1.200

back up your library

then upgrade to mc12

you can keep mc11 on your system

there may be some things with your MC12 setup that you may need to reset

but your library should be OK.

so if I follow your steps in that order, will I then have the option to import the database I make in v11.1.200 into v12?

it has been some time (about a year a go for me)

if i am not mistaken after installing MC12 it will upgrade your Library for use in MC12

You're not mistaken.  It will perform the upgrade and automatically find and import your existing library.  It also makes a backup before doing this, so there's really no need to perform a backup manually, though I'm paranoid so that's probably still not a bad idea.  The backup is just in case you change your mind, or if you still want to use MC11.1.  If you want to use MC11.1 (or might want to give up on 12 and go back) you'll need to have a separate library in a separate folder, because they aren't compatible.
