Title: Mysterious MP3s
Post by: JONCAT on March 30, 2007, 07:38:17 am
I have some lectures from The Teaching company. Each file plays to what appears to be the end according to the progress bar, but keeps playing. The durations of these lectures is listed as 4-5 minutes but they, of course, are longer than that (the current one is already at 11 minutes).

IIRC ,MC  displayed some of my unsupported ape/cue files as greater than an hour: 1:07:12.

The Playing Now popup responds to the progress bar hitting the end.

I can't seek forward past 5 minutes, or any of the erroneous durations listed for each file,  and I do suspect these are really much longer; although I wonder if they are really 5 hours long, maybe an hour realistically (256kbs 11mb file size).

256kbs * 60 secs * 5 minutes = 76800 Kilobits over five minutes
1 Kilobit = 1000 bits
76800Kilobits = 76800000 Bits
8 bits = 1 byte
76800000 / 8 = 9600000 bytes
1024 bytes = 1 Kilobyte
9600000 / 1024 = 9375 Kilobytes
1024 Kilobytes = 1 Megabyte
9375 / 1024 = 9.2 Megabytes

Sounds not to far out to me?

Could just be my bad maths =0)

Nope, just an udetailed post; I was still asleep I guess.

It could Be.

1. An Issue With The File.
Check The File In Other Players

2. An Issue With MC
Use Update From Tags (Sometimes This Corrects The Issue)

3. There Was A Time On A Older Version Of MC Where The Time In MC Did Not Match, And Seek had A Problem That Was Corrected. I have Not Seen This Issue With The Most Recent Builds.

4. I Have Also Seen This When A VBR MP3 File Had A Bad VBR Header It Would Not Display The Correct Time. There Is A App That Can Correct This If This Is the Issue. I Think It Was Called Mp3 Studio.

this is the tool you can use if it is a VBR header problem.
