I have 5000+ tunes ripped on a Win2k Pro box, and now I want a player with a capacity of at least 30 Gb.
The current finalists are Creative Zen Vision M and Ipod. (I don't really need video, btw.)
1. Can I use MC12 on a Win2k Pro / sp4 system to sync a ZVM?
The Zen info indicates I have to have XP or later to sync it, but I can't tell if that's a restriction related to the player or to the s/w they recommend using to sync it.
2. Do I have to load itunes to sync an ipod? I really like MC12 and would rather not load any s/w I don't have to.
I have "trust issues" with s/w from large companies.

I have both players (ipod video 80GB and a zen something). MC12 will work with both players just fine. If both players work fine for you is a bigger question I would think. ::)

just to clarify - you're running MC12 on Win2k, right?
thanks!

No, I had it running on XP and now on Vista.
Is there a difference running MC12 on Windows 2000 or XP or Windows 2003?
I think you might need to install a service pack for 2000 to get proper USB 2.0 support but other than that I don't see a problem.
You could always try it out, JRiver offer a 30-day trial.
I don't have Win2000 running in vmware anymore otherwise I could have tried it out.

The ipod works fine in win2k, I use this combo all the time. The zen is another matter. It depends on the model and the version of firmware you are running. I found a driver on the creative site (under the Zen MICRO NOT the Vision M) that appears to allow the "plays for sure" devices like the Vision M to work with 2k.
Legacy OS Driver 1.01.00
Is what you are looking for. I tested it with the vision M and the vision and it works but it doesn't work with the micro (at least with the one I tested). The reason this driver is necessary is that the 2k doesn't have built in support for "plays for sure" so YMMV.
Added a direct link to the driver below:
