After starting to use Library Server I have found that my computer becomes totally resistant to all methods of orderly shutdown, even from TaskManager. By choosing "Close Media Server" from the Notification area icon the computer's behaviour reverts to normal again, so its not a big problem. But I just wondered if this was the intended behaviour.

Would you check to see if the TiVo server is running? If it is, that's the problem. There's a known issue with the TiVo Server that prevents shutdown:

Ah yes, that was it. No problem after the TIVO server is shutdown. As we don't even have TIVO it shouldn't even have been on! Thanks.
