Title: Can't play video or slideshow on MC
Post by: Helan on April 09, 2007, 03:12:12 am
Hi,
MC can't play any videofiles or pictures (slideshows), I just get a black screen from MC. Extra codec pack installed (Windows Media Player works fine with both mpg and avi + more). Any idea?
MC12 (207) on a vista ultimate.

If you select a picture and hit Enter, what happens?  What exactly do you see?

MC switches over to full size play mode (controls at the top), I get sound but a black window below.

I just switched over to theater view and the video plays there (bottom half) but not in display view.

Is Tools --> Options --> Playback --> Display Settings --> Full Screen --> Monitor set to anything other than Nearest Monitor?

I have tried, both monitor one and two with different resolutions with same result.

It's possible that this is a video driver issue.

I assume you've tried switching the views manually.  Ctrl-1, Ctrl-2, etc.

Focus on getting jpg files to display.  That's the simplest to do.  It's very strange that it doesn't work.

Just to check... Did you try setting it to "Nearest Monitor", and "Desktop Resolution"?  Those are the defaults, and generally work best.  Who knows... For some reason Windows could think it's connected to more than 2 "phantom" monitors.  It's a stretch but you never know.

Also, make sure you only have one view "split" open.  It's possible to hide the "split" views, so it can be confusing.  Go to View --> Split Views and make sure Show 1 View is selected.  If you have multiple views, it could be that the Playing Now display is in another one (that's a stretch but worth checking).

View 1 is active, nearest monitor and desktop resolution is selected, tried ctrl 1 + 2 etc. I can see image and film under theater view (bottom half, playing now) and on ctrl+5 but nowere else. As far as I remember I had this vista system installed 4 weeks ago (aprox) and the MC12 version I downloaded then worked fine.
