Title: Browsing problem
Post by: Sniffy on April 11, 2007, 02:50:52 am
Hi,
When I try to browse the explorer via Media Center in a folder with divx movie, I have a waiting window.
The divx icon open on the bottom right and nothing happen for about 5 minutes.
After that I have access again to MC 12.207 but very very slowly.
Before, I use ffdshow and it works well but after upgrading to the last divx codec, ffdshow is not the codec use by MC.
How can I go back to ffdshow as the default codec?
I try some things in the directshow filter but no changes.
Thanks for help.

In the FAQ here, you will find (near the bottom) a couple of links to threads by Yaobing and glynor.  Please try those.

Yep.  DivX took over the "association" for the MPEG-4 codec types.  You can reset this easily through the FFDSHOW interface.  However, unless you are actually creating (not just playing) DivX movies, there is no reason to have the DivX codec installed at all.  FFDSHOW can handle playing back all DivX/XviD/3viX/etc movies all on it's own.  I'd recommend uninstalling it completely unless you need it.

If you are using it to create DivX compressed movies, then I'd recommend you use CCCP.  Installing CCCP will reset the settings back to use FFDSHOW for playback, and provide and easy-to-use UI to reset it again should they become messed up again in the future.

Thanks, both of you.
Everything works great now with Glynor explanation.
No freezing but still some video thumbnails which don't appear.
Sorry for the FAQ, but I realise they are a bit confusing.
I would prefer sections as "Audio", "Video", with sub section "Codec", "Tagging", etc..
