Title: MC not responding under vista
Post by: Mr ChriZ on April 12, 2007, 12:54:26 pm
Is anyone else having problems with MC not responding under Vista?
I open it and then it seems to last up to about 2 minutes, and then freezes.
Vista declares that it is not responding, and it's right!
Music continues playing however.

Yeah, I get that pretty often...

The only solution is to close MC, wait a bit and then fire it up again.

But it seems to be when MC is under stress... This morning for example, I clicked on a pretty extensive Smartlist, and it just stayed there indicating "Working..." but it was gone to never never land...

Haven't lost any data though...

Michel.

The symptoms sound like this problem:

I am very interested if that hotfix will solve that issue.

If one of you (or both) could please report back if that works or not that would be great.

I'm not sure if this the same thing. In the example I gave above, MC was not updating files, or creating cache copies for the iPod. It was just trying to calculate what should be presented by the Smartlist.

But then again, if MC is accessing the database off the hard disk, maybe it could apply.

But doesn't MC load the database in RAM?

Michel.

I tried it. Didn't help me, so I uninstalled it.

Nope, no difference.

I don't actually think it is related to that issue, since
MC isn't actually doing any copying etc at that moment.

More Info.
The problem will occur even if  I don't touch anything.
Ie start MC.
Then wait...
Then it occurs.

The last thing it appears to be doing is this...

Chris what version do you have running? 32 or 64 bit?

I would save MC's settings with Glynor's script, backup the DB and completely remove MC.

Then reinstall and don't import anything. Just wait like you did before. Does it occur? If not, restore the settings and test again. If it still doesn't occur restore the DB and try again.

I am running Vista Ultimate 64bit and I don't have this issue (I have others though ;) )

Actually the log changes.  Just had one log where the above didn't happen...

Running Vista Home Premium 32 Bit on a AMD X2 64 5000.
Dell being cheap didn't think to provide a 64bit version for a 64bit processor. grr!

I think I may have chased it down actually.
I found that using a different library stopped the problem....
I then found the original library had a large number of missing files.

I created a smart list to find these, and then removed them....
For the minute at least... the problem seems to have gone away...

Cool.

I wonder if mlefebvre has a similar issue.

Maybe on a drive that wasn't available?

Correct, the library itself had moved computers, but a large number of
image files didn't make it across.  I've moved these across now
and reimported them.  All seems good  :)

Cool.

I wonder if mlefebvre has a similar issue.

Well, I just found that I had 8 video files that were missing, out of 55,000+. I deleted them from the database and keep an eye out to see if it happens again or not.

3 Days of bliss... and now it's back again  ::)
I'm thinking it might be something to do with Auto-Import,
but I'm gonna have to keep searching :-S

I take it this time you don't have files missing in your library?
