Title: ipod generation question
Post by: autotrigger on April 27, 2007, 09:05:18 am
I have a 30 gig ipod and the last 3 digits are txk. Is this a 5.5g or just a 5g and what are the differences?  And is it possible to go to apple to have it upgraded?

There's a pretty comprehensive listing at: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=36033.0 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=36033.0)

That iPod is a 5th generation iPod (first generation iPod Video).

^meaning does the 5.5g have better hardware ie:battery, or just better firmware, and can i have the 5g updated to be just as good as the 5.5g?

You can update the firmware, so at least from a software point of view you can stay current. In case you are not sure how to do this, it requires iTunes. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and plug in the iPod.  You will find this on the Summary tab.  You can check if the firmware is current and upgrade as appropriate.
