Title: PS: The cook on http://tinyurl.com/2ta24t, that's you?
Post by: PaulSinnema on April 29, 2007, 06:38:54 am
Hi Criz,

Well I think I solved it. In Windows XP (and Vista) a library called 'winmm.dll' is available. It has 2 functions that I'm using now.

Code: [Select]
        [DllImport ( "winmm.dll" )]
        public static extern int waveOutGetVolume ( IntPtr hwo, out uint dwVolume );

        [DllImport ( "winmm.dll" )]
        public static extern int waveOutSetVolume ( IntPtr hwo, uint dwVolume );

These functions do not alter the Master Volume but the Wave Out Volume. I still have some work to do on the presentation. When I use the functions I do it in a loop with a Sleep(200). That's not very nice because the Slider on the 'Current Volume' doesn't reflect what's going on until the loop finishes. I tried adding a DoEvents() function but that caused all kinds of other unwanted sideeffects.

The Volume of Skype is lowered too using these functions so I guess I'm still not quite there. You can download the latest build from the link above.

Yeah, I also found a lot of changes for Vista. No good in Windows XP though. I still don't use Vista because of the amount of work that has to done to install it and reinstall all my programs, SP's, etc... Will go there some time in the future I guess.

Paul.

Awful!  ;)
The pub run is a fancy dress event.  We've held it for the past four years.
Think there was about 30 of us this year.   It's a good laugh!

Chriz and Paul are in Europe so they're asleep now.  We can have some fun with them...

Paul did a good job of unmasking Chriz.  Who else has a picture of themselves somewhere vulnerable?

I've always wanted to see the faces behind these disembodied voices.  What does ghammer look like?  KingSparta?  Alex B?

I know what Lise looks like.  She came to Minneapolis a long time ago when we were young and stupid.  Now we're older.  For those who don't know, she has done all of our Help files since time out of mind.

I nabbed a picture of glynor two weeks ago in Las Vegas.

Hi guys,

I've had the most terrible nightmare lastnight, that mostly happens when someone is talking about me when I'm not there  ;). No really, I'm very happy to get to know you all a bit better. To contribute to that, here's a Picture of me and my wife Catrien:

I found an old picture of KingSparta.  It's only black and white and he's young, but you can see promise in his future:

Peter Sohal and I had an interesting conversation this afternoon about why people on the Internet often wish to remain anonymous.  It's puzzled me for a long time.  Is it fear of harassment?  Simply being a little shy?  I don't know.

So, in an effort to bring anyone else out, I'll say a couple of things that are very personal.

1.  I'm getting married in a few weeks.  She's wonderful and we're not completely unfamiliar with each other.

2.  We're paying a visit to New Jersey for my 40th college reunion this weekend.  Orange and black is required.

C8?  Zev?  Alan/Harry?  JLee?  And a few others who know who they are....

....What's she doing with a character like you?  (Don't we all think that?)  A huge congratulations!!   :)

Down Boy, Down

I have seen her in many of Jim's pictures in the past and thought she was Jim's woman.

And for A Nice Song interlude

Listening to: 'It's a Love Thing' by 'Whispers, the'

Me and sue are wondering what collage, since we are from New Jersey.

i have to say most of my life is a open book to my family and yes sometimes I share too much with my Internet\j. river extended family. I do however have some secrets (most people think I don't) I am however more open here in this forum and on the Internet than I am about my private life with the people i work with and where I work.

I actually have had this same conversation about how people interact on the Internet and on BBS Systems. I have found when the phantom of the opera mask is on, people act much differently than they will in real life, sometimes more honest.

I guess you can consider the Internet as a Psychiatric smorgousborg for some people.

Recent studies of people like me, see a higher risk in "suicide (six times greater than the average), depression, bulimia, antisocial personality disorder, and substance abuse".

As some of us know I subscribe to 4 out of the five.

So I normally flush my daily stress and events away on the Internet or playing in the mud like I did when I was a kid. making Hydro Electric dams with the yard water run off.

Congratulations on the baby, Mike.  Is the fine framing yours or your dad's?  And a Land Rover, too, right?

Thx.  Yes, the framing is my work, I'm being mentored by a fellow here who does things "the old ways", mortise and tenon and so forth.  But I'm not that advanced, yet, I just stick with lag bolts for now and knotched joints.  We are building with VA Pine, White Pine, and Yellow Poplar, all from the local woods around here, most from our property.

Yes, I admit to being a recovering Land Rover addict, however, my fondness for the marque ends at model year '95.  We have 4 rovers now ('67 to '99) and I'm working on 5 and 6, a '66 88" and a '62 109", both project trucks.  Hard habit to break.  :D

We got back from reunions this afternoon, flying through a lot of rain and the edge of a thunderstorm.  Not an easy trip back.  But we're back.

Pictures are here (first part)
http://tinyurl.com/3coaa7

Characters, more or less in order --  Wayne Glass, my roommate for a couple of years at Princeton.  I think he now runs the Defense Department, but he says he is retired and teaches a few young minds at USC.   Then Cynthia, my fiance.  Then Carolyn, her daughter.  Carolyn is following in her mom's footsteps in a way, starting at zero and working her way up in the design world.  Her mom does buildings.  Carolyn does people.  And herself.

Then there is a picture of my old club, where I had three meals a day for two years.

The following day, there was a class photo.  This was our 40th.

But the main event of the weekend is the reunion parade, which is called, uh...., the P-rade.

It is one of the most moving events I've ever witnessed.  The class of 1982, who had their 25th, lead the P-rade.  But then the oldest classes follow, and progressively younger classes follow.

The oldest classes graduated in the 1920's and 30's.  Some are now over 100.  Most of the oldest ride in golf carts, then there must be a contest for the first soul who can walk on his own.  I watched this man yesterday -- he started with a couple of younger family members supporting him, but when he rounded the corner and saw the crowd, he bolted away from them, walking on his own.

As the class of 1967, we watched a lot of older classes passing first.  Then we stepped in.

And the second group of photos are here:
http://tinyurl.com/37tu6n

After we began to walk, we saw the younger classes waiting for their turn to step in.  So the faces become younger and younger on both sides.  At the very end is the class of 2007 on the left, and their parents and friends on the right.

The rest of the photos are from my class dinner last night.  It was held in a tent at the Graduate School.  A lot of shots of roommates.  Some of other classmates, many of whom I knew.

The evening ended with fireworks, which we viewed from the golf course next to the Graduate School.

A fine evening.  A very fine weekend.
