Title: What initiates major thumbnail rebuilding?

What conditions cause MC to rebuilt all or most of the thumbnails in my library?

Is restoring a library from a backup one of them?
Does it matter if it is on the same machine with no major changes?

What other changes might be cause for this rebuilding so that I could try to avoid them when possible?

The only thing I can think of is a library restore. (since thumbnails aren't part of the backup)
