goto
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=161914
download (for MC12)
In_FLAC-V2.2.0.zip
Enc_FLAC-V2.2.1.zip
extract to temp directory and doubleclick
Enc_FLAC.mjp
In_FLAC.mjp
You will get a messagebox from MC telling you "Package was succesfully installed"
(If you are not using Windows XP and you get errors you will need GDI+ from Microsoft, go to
http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/platformsdk/sdkupdate/psdkredist.htm
download the gdiplus.dll and install it to windows\system, then repeat installation of In_FLAC.mjp
)
Restart MC12
In MC12 open menu Tools/Import Folder
in dialogbox scroll down until you see the filetype FLAC
check it
and start importing yout files
thats it

thank you very much...
1st part OK MC message came on "Successfully installed"....ie In_FLAC.mjp
however 2nd file.....Enc_FLAC.mjp gave following MC message:
Failed to install package.
More info: Failed to register object.
G:\Program files\J River\Media Center 12\Plugins\Enc_FLAC.dll
URL: E:\Documents and Settings\Geoff Documents\Enc_FLAC.dll
did not go any further as I thought it might damage something.
Any ideas please.
Geoff
PS: I do use XP @SP2

Hmmm i'm lost. Don't know why Enc_Flac doesnt install.
But ...
if you only need flac playback you should be fine now.
Just restart MC and see if you can import your FLAC now via Import Folders.

Thanks, Chili, for the succint installation instructions.
I've seen other people report the installation problem and I've been unable to determine why it does that. Sometimes just waiting fixes it, sometimes a reboot is required. In any case, as you noted, playback should work fine with just the decoder (input) plugin installed.
Geoff - you can't break it, so don't sweat.

The mjp file could be edited to download and install the zip file. Let us know if you need any guidance.
-
JimH - because of the way Sourceforge hosts files, I wasn't able to do that (I would have to select the mirror site). I've noticed some changes over there, so maybe there's a new work-around. I agree with you it would be much easier if the mjp would link to the zip instead of being inside the zip.
-
Maybe J River would agree to host the current builds for you (for downloading via the mjp file).
I'd personally still like to be able to download the full package though. I have a few machines and it's silly to re-download it over and over.

I'm sure they would, but getting them updated in the middle of the night is impossible. Each has to be submitted and Bob has to update the database manually. So keeping them fresh with the correct version isn't very easy. Right now, the internal JRiver download page just links to the Sourceforge site, so I only have one place to keep up.
Plus, Sourceforge likes to keep track of activity.
