My new toy: Motorola V6MAXX with 2GB micro-SD card. I threw in a smartlist with 2 gigs of music via MC last night, all mp3. When attempting to play some of the files back, I get the error "File has unidentifiable information" and I'm asked if I want to delete it.
Has anyone here got a Motorola V6 or similar? Judging from posts at other forums, the problem seems widespread, but despite numerous suggestions, no-one in all the posts I found seems to have the answer to what infomation exactly is unidentifiable. Could be all sorts of stuff in the tag, or maybe it's something like file size, bitrate, length of file name - who knows?

Try to narrow down which files are the problem, then look at the tags. It could be anything.
There are some utilities for checking the tags. Maybe try a search here and at google for "corrupt tag" and "mp3".

Got it ! The files can be 256kbps max. All I have to do is create a smartlist limiting the bitrate. Brilliant that MC lets me do just that.

Thanks for reporting the solution.
