Been running Media Center 12 for months on this PC. Today I wanted to try getting the UPnP server going so I enabled it in MediaCenter, mucked around a bit but when I restarted Media Center it won't stay running. It pops up briefly and then shuts down immediately. Anyone had this happen before?
Thanks!

Firewall?
If MC fails several times, it will ask to run in a "safe mode".

I've made no changes to the firewall. I've restarted MC at least 2 dozen times and haven't received the "safe mode" question. Disabled the firewall. rebooted. Still the same result. The Media Center program group just barely flashes (<1sec) before disappearing. Accordingly I can see the Media Center 12.exe process flash in my task manager processes window - again for less than a second. Any ideas around the UPnP server or service that could cause this? I was listening to Music and watching TV on this PC all day yesterday without incident. Only thing I mucked around with was the UPnP server.

In the notification area in the lower right corner of the desktop, is Media Server (MC) running?
-
Nope - I don't run Media Server.

Is there any problem remaining using the latest build at the top of this board?
Thanks.

hi,
Updated to .251 - still no love. Does the same thing: Tries to start - program group pops up for a few seconds and then it disappears. Task manager show no media center running.

This may seem simple but...
Did you try doing a full unininstall and then reinstall? Do this:
0. BACK UP YOUR LIBRARY AND SAVE THE ZIP FILE ON EXTERNAL MEDIA!!!
1. Uninstall MC via Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.
2. Reboot.
3. Find and delete any remaining files at C:\Program Files\J River\
4. Find and delete any remaining files at C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\J River\
5. If you're unafraid, find and delete the following two registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver
6. Reboot.
7. Reinstall MC using latest build from this board.
-
Also, you may want to back up your cover art files separately if you use the default location under the C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\J River\... path. Cover art is not included in a library backup file.
EDIT
Since you cannot use MC you must back up the library files (*.jmd) directly from the library location or locations if you have more than one library.

Good point.
However, when you reinstall. Try it first with a blank library first, in case it is the library itself causing the problem.
