Title: Mp101 - play only 1 track then hangs
Post by: harlon on May 30, 2007, 11:25:51 am
Everything set up fine, finding server etc but will only play 1 track at a time. The Mp101 player then freezes and have to Reboot. If a track is playing you can skip to the next track ok. Problem is when the track has finished playing.

Any ideas what the problem maybe ?

Vista?

The MP101 isn't working nicely with Vista.  We spent a lot of time chasing it and couldn't find anything we were doing wrong.  It seemed like a hardware problem in the end.

Yeah - trying to run on Vista.

What Matt said - unfortunately NetGear isn't supporting the MP101 anymore, so we can't expect a fix.

Hi Guys

There is a Netgear MP101 user group which has actually udgraded the firmware and this is supposed to cure the problem of one song only with vista. I have a copy of the firmware but I haven't updated as yet, I hope to do that over the weekend and, if it's succesful, I would be happy to provide the firmware to anyone who wants it...it's pretty hard to get hold of. I think I should check it out first and get back to you though...

Best Regards

Goodog

I have a similar problem, in that my MP101 seems to only play the first 1:20 of any song selected and then stops.  I can reselect the song I was playing or indeed choose another song, but I still only get the first 1:20 (ish).

This is an extract of the UPnP log:

09/11/07 20:07:55 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 36(Audio\Artist/Album\Queen\Greatest Hits, Vol. 2)

I'm running Norton Personal Firewall on the PC, and it's XP O/S, not Vista (I did try search before settling on this thread).

To me its almost as if the first chunk of the file goes to the MP101 and then it just loses its way.  Strangle, though that its around the same 1min 20sec mark every time.

Any ideas?  MC is the best combined music/video center I've found, and I don't really want to have to install anything else.

Yours hopefully...

Try turning off conversion...

I tried that, thanks.

It looks like I've got a strange wireless problem with my BT Home Hub, so I'm going to try plugging it in to the hub directly to see if I have the same issues.

Thanks again for the prompt response.

I would appreciate new firmware.  If I use the next track button on the MP101 it works fine!  It's just the auto next track when one finishes.  Mine plays a full song through fine.

I have great success with my 2 mp101's and dsm320 running under vista, unfortunately had to use someone else's upnp server  :(

I don't know if we're going to do anything about the MP101, but I'd appreciate more info. Last time I looked at this, *every* server was having the play 1 track problem.

I can provide any info you need/want.  Basically, my server is running Vista with as little Vista-security features running as I can.  I believe I disabled the special security "thing" because I had to to install Apache so I don't get all the warnings now.  I also have the firewall off.  I also used the command that supposedly speeds up networking.  And then a simple wireless-b access point where my MP101 connects.  For a while, I was able to manually push NEXT track on the remote and it WOULD work.  That doesn't work anymore!  If I arrow-left and select a song, it will stop the current one and start the new one.

I didn't want to post a competitors name, but as you ask, twonky media 4.4.2 works for me on vista home premium

So, the Netgear MP101, Windows Vista, and MC are not playing well together.  What units do work well with Vista and MC??

I don't mind replacing the unsupported MP101, but Iwould like to only replace it once, not try a bunch of units.

Thanks,
Doug

Hi folks,

did anyone try the new firmware (1.4.7) and check if the problem persists?
