Title: mp4 Mediatype as "Video" rather than "Music"
Post by: bbrip on May 31, 2007, 03:39:05 am
I suddenly get some of my mp4 files appearing under mediatype "Music" instead of "Video".  I know you can define somewhere how these files should be listed but cant figure out anymore where it was....

Thanks for any clues   ?

You simply change the Media Type for any that get mis-categorized.  MC analyzes them and tries to determine the proper type.  It's usually pretty good but it doesn't always get it right.

MP4 files can be either audio or video (M4A is really just a MP4 with a different, apple-invented, filename extension).

To change Media Type manually:

Select the file. Click "Tag" in Action Window (or choose Tag in right-click menu). Click top-left corner of "Tag" window, and choose "Show All Tags". Find "Media Type" and change it.

Thanks. I figured how to change it on individual files. Its still annoying that it classifies new mp4 imports as Music, though....

Only started since some of the more recent releases

It would happen if MC failed to render video portion. Did you select a proper video decoder?

I believe so. The files are Nero encoded MP4 files, so I selected the Nero decoders
