I just wanted to express my appreciation for the great quality ripping capabilities in Media Center. I just recently compared several programs, using the same LAME 3.97 codec, and was surprised that there were very noticeable differences in SQ.
MC came out on top overall, and only EAC matched it in terms of sound to my ears.
Thanks again for a great piece of software.

You're welcome, and thanks for saying so.

Thanks.
And remember that you can enable secure ripping to have MC double-check the rip and give a quality report when finished. This is nice because it lets you know if the rip is anything less than bit-perfect.

How do you do this?

Actually, all standard rippers should produce identical sound quality if the same compression codec and encoding settings are used and if the ripping program does not apply any DSP like normalizing. MC is not an exception. By default it produces completely unaltered audio data. Perhaps the other rippers used some suboptimal LAME settings.
If a CD is flawless all rippers should produce the same audio quality (at least before encoding the files), but if a CD contains slightly defective sectors MC's secure mode can detect these and try to correct the problem by using its reread & compare system.

This thread has some good tips for ripping with MC:
