Hi,
Bug / Inter-action Reporting and request for advice please.
I have specifically joined this forum to report / ask for assistance with a problem that is happening with my new trial download of the latest Media-Centre. I had assumed there would be a contact on the firm's main pages but I see none.
I am very impressed with the programme's execution and features and might well be mined to buy it but for the fact it keeps crashing. I do not have this problem with any other programmes.
The crashes do not seem to happen at specific points - though "Find CD" crashed several times this morning but seems fine now. (Subsidiary question: can one delete set stores and add new ones? The set stores appear to be in the USA, which is not suitable for me - I want Amazon.co.uk and ebay.co.uk, not the US/Com versions - thanks in anticipation).
I am running a 2.6GHZ AMD system (Via chipset), 1GB RAM, Windows XP Home SP2, Zone Alarm Security Suite (the full version - firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware) which is still learning as I have recently re-installed Windows. The computer is one I built three years ago using a Jetway motherboard. I used ADSL Net access (variable bitrate - but typically 5Mbps).
I know Zone Alarm can block programmes (axiomatic) but in this learn phase it is opening to allow them through unless I specifically block them. I have just deleted ZA's entire programme list in case it was blocking Media-Centre but the problem continues. I have twice re-intsalled Media-Centre and booted the computer several times.
Sometimes Media-Centre will run for a long while, other times it crashes within a few moments of being opened.
This is the first time I have run any version of the programme which, as I mentioned above, I am evaluating.
Thanks for anyone's help / assistance.

Does MC appear to be unresponsive prior to crashing ?
..or does it just blow up unexpectedly.
-
Hi hit_ny - thanks for your reply.
No the crashes are sudden and unpredictable. (Since this posting, I have been using it without problem).
If there is any trend it might be to crash soon after opening, else keep going for a long time.
Not sure that helps but thanks again.

Hi,
Thanks for your hep
hit_ny - system file (in full) posted below - save Windows directory and computer name etc changed for security reasons. (Generally I do not use MS ie and use Firefox instead, as I am doing now - though, of course, MS ie remains on my system and is auto-updated by MS).
Thanks.
JimH - I did look in there and did see Zone Alarm mentioned, thanks. But that tile seems to relate to past versions of Media Centre and has older work-abouts such as disabling Zone Alarm or not using WinXP Service Pack II - neither of which would work from a security perspective. I may have missed something, though, and shall return to re-read, thanks.

There is much more but is any more needed? (keeps refusing to post because of low character limit).
Cheers, DB.

What media is being played ? audio, video and which formats ?
Is your media on the same machine as MC or networked ?
-

It's a long thread, with the most recent problems (and solutions) at the bottom. Try reading in reverse order.
Older versions of zonealarm had to be uninstalled, not just disabled.
