.TP (ATSC transport stream) files from a different program are not a possible file extension so are not imported. Also, when I open/play them from MC it automatically opens up WMP where it plays fine with the PureVideo decoder??
-
Try adding "tp" to the <DXTypes> section of [MC]\Data\Default Resources\FileAssociations.xml
If it works, we'll add it to the build in a coming build for everyone.
Thanks!

This didn't seem to work. I added it to <DXTypes> and the <DescriptionTypes> areas and still have the same behavior (MC was closed while I made the change).

Well, through some combination of adding TP to the DefaultFileTypes and enabling "Shell Integration" I was able to get this filetype imported. However, I can't get it to play. I get an "DLL initialization error" when trying to play the file back. If I go into the DirectShow filter setup for .tp and select "NVidia ATSC File" as the source filter then I don't get an error but just a black playback screen. If I try to manually select everything shown in GraphEdit for this file I still get a black screen (see below)??

I forwarded this on to Yaobing, our resident Direct Show expert. He's on vacation, so it may be a few days before we have a chance to try it ourselves.
Thanks.

Hi Craig, I was also getting a bunch of issues trying to play TS files (these ones were from an HDV camera and the containers was M2T). It seems that some filters really don't like TS files (if I change them to PS files all is good!) yet others work just fine (try the MPV filters and see how you go).
Thanks
Nathan

Thanks, Nathan, but I'm not really sure what the MPV filters are?

These files are a type of mpg so you can just change the extension to MPG and see what filter selection works (the Nero ones are OK but I find the nVidia ones stutter badly). I can not remember the name but I also found a util over at www.videohelp.com that can convert TS to PS (just search on these terms) that does an OK job. A better option will to be to hav the new file extensions added to MC12 so you can then select the filters that work best for TS based MPEG file.
Thanks
Nathan
Edit...here is the link to the tool. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/HDTVtoMPEG2

Also I'm not sure how I ended up with the MPV, MPA filters but here is a link I found on the net! http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm
Hope it helps!

3rd Idea, try renaming the extension to dvr-ms which MC supports...

Thanks for your help. Changing the extension to MPG worked but it still won't play TP even though I think I have added it as a recognized extension.
Matt & Yaobing: I will likely change my PVR program so don't spend much time on this unless you want to anyways :). Thanks.

Craig, I'm happy to have a look at a file if you upload it to a server (I'm only around for a day though then off to Fiji!~)
-
What's your hotel? I'll send it there :). It would take forever to upload anything since I currently have dial-up :'(. In any case, I'm not too worried about getting it working since I will probably be changing PVR programs.

It works on my computer. After adding tp extension to FileAssociations.xml file, MC plays tp files without further intervention from me (such as choosing special filters). MC automatically loaded the following filters:
DVBPortal HDTV TS Pump (I would expect your NVidia ATSC File to do the same)
MPEG-2 Demultiplexer (this is part of DirectShow)
FFDShow Audio Decoder
FFDShow MP4 Video Decoder
VMR9
Default DirectSound Device
On my computer, FFDShow was installed as part of CCCP. By the way MPV decoder is also part of CCCP.
From the list above, the only thing that is special is the source filter. We just need to have a source filter that can handle tp file type. Since your computer does have the ability to play tp files (via Window Media Player), you must have such a source filter (such as NVidia ATSC File). Everything else seem to be very common.

Well, I can't seem to get it working with the codecs I have installed on my system. That's ok, though. If I decide to dig into this further I guess I will try to install some of the ones you have installed. Thanks.

I am trying this again and when I import .TP files with the new version of MC it puts them in the "Documents" section?

In Version 279 we still have not put tp extension in FileAssociations.xml file. If you are using this version or earlier, you may need to edit FileAssociations.xml again.
